Supporting Information Legends

Supplementary Information S1. Demonstration movies. Please fixate on a red circle during the demonstrations. Sounds are desirable to be provided through headphones or earphones. (A) Demonstration movie of sound-induced visual motion. A white bar repeatedly appears at a fixed position without sounds in the first sequence. In the following sequences, the sounds alternate between left and right ears/locations. The white bar may appear to move laterally although it is at a fixed position. In some sequences, the white bar actually moves. However, it may be difficult to be noticed.

(B) Demonstration movie of Silent and Alternating pitch conditions. While a white bar repeatedly appears at a fixed position without sounds in the first sequence (Silent condition), high and low pitched sounds alternately appear in the following sequences (Alternating pitch condition). The bar may appear not to move vertically in both the sequences. (C) Demonstration movie of Congruent and Incongruent association between pitch and visual stimulus locations. While a high-pitched sound is paired with an upper visual location in congruent situation (the first half sequences), this relationship is reversed in incongruent situation (the second half sequences). Demonstration of single test sequence is also included after each sequence.

Supplementary Information S2. Proportion of hits and false alarms. (A) Experiment 1.

(B) Experiment 2. Error bars denote the standard error of the mean (N = 8).

Supplementary Information S3. Estimated PSSs. Error bars denote the standard error of the mean (N = 8). Supplementary Information S4. (A) Just noticeable differences (JNDs) calculated as the slope of the psychometric functions by the following formula: (75% threshold –

25% threshold) / 2. (B) Amount of JND shifts plotted along the upward and downward sounds. The three-way repeated measures ANOVA with Test session × Exposure

(congruent/incongruent) × Sound condition (upward/downward) found no significant effects including interactions between test sessions and exposure types (F(1, 7) =

0.16, p = .70) and among the factors (F(1, 7) = 2.81, p = .14). Error bars denote the standard error of the mean (N = 8).
