Beulah Elementary Chorus Handbook 2016-2017

Philosophy Dedicated to excellence, the BES Chorus has 2 main objectives. Membership offers instruction in vocal technique as well as exposure to a variety or choral styles. Involvement also enhances young people’s lives, helping them to develop qualities of confidence in their abilities, personal integrity, and responsibility.

Rehearsals Rehearsals will take place every Tuesday after school until 4:00. I expect each chorus member to be present at every rehearsal. Your child will only be excused from chorus practice with a note from a parent/guardian. If a student accumulates more than 2 unexcused absences, he/she will be asked to re-evaluate whether or not they should be in chorus.

Transportation Each child is expected to be picked up promptly at 4:00 each Tuesday afternoon. You may pick up your child in the lane outside the main office. If your child cannot be picked up by 4:00, please make arrangements to have your child enrolled in Beulah’s after school program. The office MUST have a note if your child will be riding home with someone else. A phone call or e-mail will NOT be accepted.

Behavior School behavior is expected during each rehearsal. One of the criteria for acceptance into the chorus is the ability to commit to a high standard of behavior. This is every bit as important as a student’s musical ability.

Uniforms All new BES Chorus members are required to purchase a chorus shirt. If you are a returning member, you do not need to purchase a new shirt unless yours no longer fits or is lost. The shirts are $9.00 and I need either cash or a check made out to Beulah Elementary NO LATER than Tuesday, September 13th. If there is any problem, please let me know as soon as possible.

Girls and boys: Chorus shirt, jeans with NO rips, tears, or holes, comfortable shoes but NO flip flops. Performances Performance attendance is VITAL. I understand that students do get sick and emergences do arise. Please notify me as soon as possible if you cannot attend a performance. Sports practices, games, community and church events are not considered valid reasons for missing a concert. Students in ASP MAY NOT leave and come to the concert unless their parent or guardian has checked them out. We have the following performances planned for this semester:

Saturday, September 4th: September Saturdays Festival at the Douglas County Courthouse, performance at 3:30pm, must arrive at 3:00pm

Friday, December 9th: Holiday Concert, time TBA

If any more performance opportunities arise, a letter including dates, times, and locations will be sent home.

We look forward to a fantastic semester!
