Accepted as a true record.

Matters arising not on agenda:

It was noted that Ewan Kelly, Programme Director, Healthcare Chaplain, would be visiting Grampian on 23 July. David and Laura to check availability.

4. Matters Arising

4.1 Chapel at Dr Gray’s Hospital, Elgin

The chapel at Dr Gray’s was in use but not officially opened Item Subject Action and it was thought that the Moderator General would might be invited to carry out the official ceremony. Members of the Committee were encouraged to visit the chapel.

4.2 Chaplains and Patient Information

The working group had met and Roelf Dijkhuizen, Medical Director, who had overall responsibility for data protection issues, joined the meeting and was sympathetic toof the challenges. Generally, little progress had yet been made and the challenges remained.

It was reported that the UK wide instruction conflicted with the one from Scottish Government. It was therefore left to local interpretation which was not consistent.

4.3 Minutes of National Spiritual Care Committee

This was still being pursued. FC

4.4 Religions and Cultures Book

This had been reprinted with very minor corrections. David’s greeting was included and the beginning.

5. Intermediate Care and Woodend Hospital

Jackie Bremner, Service Planning Lead, City CHP, was welcomed to the meeting. She gave a presentation on the Intermediate Care Project and the impact it would have on Woodend Hospital. This included:

 Background to intermediate care  Westview updgrading – creation of a specialist orthopaedic and vascular rehab unit  South Block upgrading and replacement  Rapid Access Assessment Clinic Pilot – provision of a rapid multi-professional assessment service  Triage and Assessment Unit – 10 bedded Triage Unit in Ward 15 to be operational around end May 2009  Craig Court – 16-bedded rehab unit located on the Tor-na-Dee Site  Rosewell House – 60 bedded care home  Supported Discharge Service  Intermediate Care management structure  Community nursing redesign

Discussion took place on the spiritual care element. In the case of Item Subject Action Rosewell House and Craig Court the patients would have been discharged from NHS care and the responsibility would lie with the care providers.

The Care Commission had definite criteria for the provision of JB pastoral care and in the case of Southern Cross this was included in the contract (Jackie to circulate excerpt to the Committee). The Committee was reassured that pastoral care would be available at the two facilities.

Jackie was thanked for her informative and interesting presentation. A copy of the presentation attached.

6, Chaplaincy at Woodend Hospital/Links Unit

Rev Mark Rodgers and Rev John Duthie gave an insight into chaplaincy at Woodend and City Hospitals and the potential for changes to working practices in the future in respect of these hospitals was recognised.

The following was noted

 They covered the feeder wards in ARI for Woodend, most of the rehab, elective and orthopaedic wards  There was a chapel/quiet room at Woodend  There were two services held at Woodend, with a possibility of a midweek third service.  There were also colleagues of different faiths denominations at Woodend  Many of the existing pPatients in City Hospital to will transfer to Craig Court  A service held at City once a month

7. Spiritual Care Matters – An introductory resource for all NHS Staff

The conference held at Stirling was very interesting with a variety of talks with good speakers. As a result, this very readable, well written, user friendly document was produced and it was now available to us as a resource.

8. Employment of Sessional Chaplains

It was reported that some provision had been made in the budget setting process for the transfer of Sessional Chaplains to NHS employment. A short life working group with representation from HR and chaplains would be set up to start dialogue on the transfer this year. This would give an opportunity to carry out a review of existing arrangements both in Aberdeen the community hospitals Item Subject Action and Dr Gray’s.

9. Multi-Faith Prayer Resource Project

This project was funded by the Health Department to produce a multi-faith and belief orientated resource of prayers, readings and poetry to be made available to those within the service. The target was to have material ready by Spring of next year but there were no details as to how this would be distributed and presented.

10. Provision of Gideon Bibles

After discussion, it was agreed that it was appropriate that Bbibles should be provided at each bedside.

11. Report from Head of Spiritual Care

The following was highlighted:

 Emergency incident plan – even though there was no hospital involvement after the recent helicopter crash, on this occasion, the chaplain call out system worked well.  Solas Group – this initiative, which supported those struggling with depression, had been relaunched.  Memorials – there were plans to create a memorial for stillborn babies in Trinity Hazlehead cemetery and a small memorial at Hazlehead Cemetery  Discussions ongoing as to whether the memorial service should still be held at Trinity or move to Hazlehead

12. Training Matters

For information.

13. Development of Emergency Care Centre – Implications for Spiritual Care

The development of the Emergency Care Centre would have measured implications on how spiritual care was delivered within the Foresterhill site. It was important that this should be taken into LG account as the centre was developed, what it would look like and where it would be situated. Laura agreed to take forward.

14. AOCB

None.

15. Date of Next Meeting Item Subject Action 27 August 2009 at 10.00 am in the David Anderson Building.
