Position: Municipal Credit Research - Associate Job Location: Whippany, NJ
MetLife is looking to hire a Municipal Research Associate in the Global Credit Group. Research is an integral part of MetLife’s credit asset management process. The Associate would work closely with Senior Analysts performing fundamental analysis on municipal credits in various sectors, utilizing sector-specific research and relative value analysis to evaluate issuers’ creditworthiness and make recommendations to the trading desk. MetLife’s municipal bond portfolio has grown to about $15 billion in assets.
Associate will assist senior analysts in managing the portfolio through: Monitoring and evaluating sector and issuer-specific developments Analyzing primary and secondary investment opportunities and perform active surveillance of portfolio holdings Properly positioning the portfolio at the sector and individual issuer level Communicating credit views and ideas to PM and trader(s)
Key Responsibilities: Monitor financial and operating performance with specific emphasis on municipal investment grade securities Compile and analyze financial and operational information for municipal issuers using EMMA filings, disclosure reports, rating agencies, sell-side research and other sources to develop opinions and written reports on issuers and sectors Contribute to the timely analysis of investment opportunities, including the development of purchase/sale recommendations and relative value ideas within the Unit by keeping abreast of all aspects of the municipal market, including new developments, issuance, and new structures Make buy/sell investment recommendations based on credit views. This includes writing detailed credit memos for new purchases and annual credit reviews Proactively monitor industry developments, providing input to help form opinions for sector positioning and support changes to exposures when warranted Present credit analyses to management credit committee
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills MBA, CFA or equivalent 1- 3 years financial industry experience, municipal research experience highly preferred Ability to work effectively with others at all levels of the organization Proficiency in Open Bloomberg, Excel, Word Solid quantitative and analytical skills Excellent oral and written communication skills
