MINUTES OF THE APRIL 5, 2010 MEETING Sue Cannon called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M.

MEMBER’S PRESENT: Sue Cannon, Chairman, Rosemary Hogan-Cunningham, Vice Chairman, Gary McGuire, Barbara Sullivan, and Frances Urbank.

ALSO PRESENT: Ann Marie Claffey, Executive Director and John Sullivan, Municipal Agent.

MEMBERS ABSENT: Edward Lanati and Wanda Smith.

PUBLIC PRESENT: None.

SECRETARY’S REPORT: Upon a motion by Frances Urbank and seconded by Rosemary Hogan-Cunningham; the March 15, 2010 report was accepted.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Barbara Sullivan presented the Treasurer’s Report. She reported she is holding off on the CD until the rates improve. The board agreed to hold off on the CD until rates go up. She also reported the center received a donation in memory of Katie Scotto. Upon a motion by Rosemary Hogan-Cunningham to accept the treasurers report; seconded by Gary McGuire, the treasurer’s report was accepted.

PUBLIC INPUT: N/A.

BUS COORDINATOR’S REPORT: No Report available. Ann Marie Claffey stated there are no funds available in the maintenance account, and she will have to go to the finance dept. for approval for future bus repairs/maintenance.

DIRECTOR’S REPORT: Ann Marie Claffey presented the Director’s Report. Programs include: Safety in the Home, Hot Topics-Healthy Joints, Financial Planning/Investments, AARP Safe Drive, Nutrition Class, Spring Fling, and Volunteer Supper-May 4, 2010. Open House for the Fitness Center is planned for April 9, 2010 from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. The new door locks are up and running with swipe key cards. The stove and refrigerator have been ordered and they are waiting for delivery. Silver Sneakers/chair yoga will start May 7, 2010 with a 45 minute class on Friday mornings. Wii Bowling is practicing for the finals. WLSC has entered into the Healthnet Senior Star Dance Competition, to be held in Simsbury. Healthnet will be cutting back on their programs to this Center due to their organizations recent downsizing. Center Trips include Rein’s Deli and Lenny & Joes. Charted Trips include: Aqua Turf, Turning Stone Vernona NY, Grand Oak Villa Oakville CT, and Clarion Hotel Bristol CT.

Ann Marie Claffey reported that there is an issue concerning the property lines behind the Center. It has been reported to Jaimie Mantie, Executive Director of the Housing Authority, Steve Wawruck, and the police dept. Sue Cannon asked Ann Marie Claffey to thank Jaimie Mantie for pursuing this issue. A solution is forthcoming. CONA MINUTES APRIL 5, 2010 PAGE 2

COMMITTEE REPORT AND ACTIONS: N/A

MUNICIPAL AGENT REPORT: John Sullivan reported he will have information in the SCAN about WJMJ 88.9 beautiful music station on the radio. There are no commercials, public service announcements, and news on the hour.

OLD BUSINESS:  Discuss and vote on Rules and Regulations of Fitness Center. A package prepared by Dee Abrams and Ann Marie Claffey was presented to the board for discussion and review. Volunteers are needed to monitor the fitness room when the instructor is not available. The room has its own thermostat, shades have been installed on the windows, and a phone will be installed in the room. Upon a motion by Gary McGuire to accept the Rules and Regulations of the L.O.C.K.S…..FIT(ness) Center as presented, seconded by Frances Urbank; the motion was accepted unanimously.

 Frances Urbank asked about the handicapped individual who had requested a bus ride for work purposes. Gary McGuire stated the person has taken another job. Sue Cannon asked if Sandy Hebert has looked into rules for handicapped individuals for bus service. Ann Marie Claffey said she will follow up with Sandy Hebert on this issue.

NEW BUSINESS: Gary McGuire made a motion that Senior Center exterior doors are to be locked when meetings are in process, seconded by Barbara Sullivan; the motion was approved unanimously.

The CONA Board has agreed to support Ann Marie Claffey’s request to not allow an individual from participating at the Center because of that persons’ inappropriate behavior.

ADJOURNMENT: Upon a motion by Frances Urbank and seconded by Rosemary Hogan-Cunningham, the meeting was adjourned at 8:38 P.M.
