OUTGOING STUDENT FEEDBACK FORM
University Attended: Babson College
INDUCTION/ORIENTATION PROGRAMME What did this involve, how long did it last, was it useful? The induction was a few days and was very fun. It really seemed to bring to bring people together. This was a time where people met there intial group of friends so I would recommend taking part in everything. Babson really did make it a great experience and had events outside and even party on a boat at Boston Harbour.
ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE Style of teaching, courses, ease of access to courses, methods of assessment, teaching support The teaching at Babson is exceptional; it is all reliant on the professor and it is easy to gain access to professors history and opinion polls on the course – just ask any Babson student. Moreover, the lecturers are of a very high calibre and have significant experience in the field. For example my Management consulting class was taught by the former head of strategy worldwide for Accenture. There is a LOT of group work and presentation and that can sometimes be testing but it does build your skill set in that areas. Babson is very much about building practical skills set and base a lot of teaching on Harvard Business School cases. There is also a lot of class participation and your grade is reliant on that. The courses are very hands on and applicable to real life business and there are opportunities for you experience that as well. The support is excellent, professors are extremely accessible. The facilities are great, for example the Cutler investment centre is a great resource for Bloomberg etc.
The courses I would recommend from mine and friends experience are:
Brand Management – Fisher Raising Money: VC, angels and incubators - Elizabeth Riley Management Consulting – Michael May The Ultimate Entrepreneurial Challenge – Len Green Financial Market and Instruments – Craig Stephenson Entrepreneurship and Opportunity Management Consulting Field Experience The Babson fund – if you have a good financial background you may be able to take part in this
MBS INTERNATIONAL OFFICE Really good, everything i needed to know was answered very quickly.
MBS SECOND YEAR MEETINGS Perhaps that Babson is in Wellesley which is near Boston but without a car leaving Babson to go to Boston is pricey or takes a long while.
HOST INTERNATIONAL OFFICE They were great and supportive, whenever I needed help of information they were extremely quick at getting back to me or having meetings with me.
INSURANCE, HEALTH COVER I believe that was covered in the initial costs that Babson sent but it was very worthwhile as the health service are great, even as much as sniffle they would see me and make sure I got something to sort it out.
INFORMATION ON ANY ADDITIONAL COSTS Books are expensive, you could spend as much as $500 just on books. The accommodation is pricey and so is the meal plan which you are obliged to be on if you live anywhere else but Woodland.
ACCOMMODATION As much information as possible on what accommodation is recommended or not recommended.
The accommodation varies, there are singles in MaphillCanfield, Keith, Putney, McCollough and Pietz. Try to get a single – but call then and email them , do not simpley rely on the form as they ignored my request for a single. If you are not bothered you could share a room with up to 3 other people.
The accommodation is clean and comfortable, I have no complaints at all. The food plan that is mostly obligatory is good enough.
DESTINATION INFORMATION AND OVERALL EXPERIENCE Transport, travel, social life, integration with local students, student activity groups
Babson college’s social aspect is good. The type of people you would meet are excellent, it is not the number 1 for entrepreneurship is the USA for no reason, the people are entrepreneurial and you meet a diverse range of international and American students and most people are very driven and motivated. I see it as privilege to have met so many people in that entrepreneurial and motivated mould.
The social life is good, there is always things and shows happening on campus. It is a small community so everyone knows each other which is nice. TInhe parties take place in the frat houses and the senior building Maphill. They are fun and everyone is out and it is great because the whole campus is very involved.
In terms of integration with local students, I found that everyone was very warm to me and involved me very quickly into their lives. Again, I cannot how great I think the people were at Babson. Also, there are many student activity groups to satisfy anything you would be interests in from mixed martial arts to dance to investment banking.
The transport around babson is good there is a train line a 10 minute drive from the campus and zip cars available but Babson is a decent ½ hour drive from Boston which can be annoying if you want to go to Boston often.
DESCRIBE IN ONE SENTENCE YOUR YEAR ABROAD An inspiring year where i met great people and developed and understood my entrepreneurial mind.
