Writing Prompt and Task Template Standard--Students analyze the causes and effects of the vast expansion and ultimate disintegration of the Roman Empire.

Historical Background-Many aspects of Roman civilization continue to influence the world today. From their ideas about government and citizenship to their feats of engineering, the Romans left an important legacy.

Prompt- Describe and explain three of the most significant legacies left behind by the Roman Empire to the United States of America.

Task- Write a multi-paragraph response in which you: 1. Write an introduction that defines the various legacies left behind by the Roman Empire and introduce the legacies you plan to discuss. 2. Write clear topic sentences that clearly identify the specific Roman legacy you are discussing. 3. Provide details and examples describing why the legacy you chose is relevant to the United States 4. Write a conclusion in which you restate your main point. Identify which Roman accomplishment you think was the most important overall, and explain why that accomplishment was the most important.
