Sheria Lin “Hoppie” Boyd McMichael, age 79, died Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at Jasper Memorial Hospital.
Sheria Lin McMichael was born in 1933 in Winters, Texas and quickly acquired the nickname of “Hoppie” to reflect her fun-loving personality and her love of pretending to be Hopalong Cassidy. Her parents were the late Homer and Maurine Carroll Boyd. She married the late Robert F. Tuggle, Jr., in Houston in 1951 and moved to Monticello, Georgia in 1953. In 1969, she married the late Randolph Levi McMichael. Hoppie worked for the Monticello News in the 1950’s, then became the one-woman office for Frank G. Lake Lumber Company, where she worked until her retirement. She and Randolph enjoyed creating wood crafts highlighting his woodworking and her painting. For many years, Hoppie was active at the First United Methodist Church of Monticello, serving in a wide variety of roles, including Board Member and Sunday School Administrator. She also volunteered at Jasper County Hospital and The Retreat Nursing Home. She and Randolph enjoyed traveling and good times with family and friends. Hoppie was known for her unfailing good humor and strength in good times and bad.
The family is grateful to The Retreat staff for the excellent care and attention she received there for the last two years of her life.
She is survived by her children and spouses, Susan and Paul Burnore of Hampton, Alf and Marianne Tuggle of Dallas, Texas, Jim and Martha Ann Tuggle of Americus, Randy and Merie McMichael of Eatonton, and Tony and Frances McMichael of Winter Haven, Florida; grandchildren, Matt Tuggle, Brad Tuggle, Levi Tuggle, Travis Tuggle, Nathanael Burnore, Deirdre Sapp, Bryan McMichael, Andrew McMichael, and Alex McMichael; great grandchildren, Nathanael Lee Burnore, Jaylan Paige Burnore, Matthew Boyd Tuggle, Randolph Ean “Res” Sapp, Annabell Sapp, and Chance Sapp; sister, Alva von Heimburg of Bedford, Texas; and brother, Judge Morris of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
