Health Studies (Global Health) Teaching Position for Fall 2015 term available in the Undergraduate Program at the University of Notre Dame (USA) in England.
The University of Notre Dame, a Catholic research university that ranks in the top 20 among American colleges and universities, operates an academic centre in the heart of Westminster to promote intellectual exchange through conferences, seminars and events, as well as its academic program for undergraduate students.
The University of Notre Dame’s London Undergraduate Program seeks a lecturer able to teach the following course:
GLOBAL HEALTH
Course Description: This course provides a broad overview of global health, policies, and practices to a class of undergraduate students drawn from a mix of anthropology, sociology, and those preparing for advanced degrees in medicine. The course analyses global health by putting its contemporary definition, determinants, and development as a field into a wide global context. This course provides students the opportunity to explore and define global health by examining: experiences of the people involved; historical and contemporary connections that provide state-of-the- art health care services to some while leaving others without; a range of perspectives with particular emphasis on an anthropological view; and how change is central both to the practice of medicine and to an understanding of global health within a network of politics, economics, history and technology. The course should also capitalise on its London location through the use of field trips, site visits, and selective use of guest speakers.
Teaching commitment: Meeting either once or twice a week for 14 teaching weeks for a total of 35 hours of class time between late August and mid-December 2015. Class times/days have not yet been set, but our teaching week is Monday to Thursday.
Dates for the Fall Semester 2015: 24 August – 11 December.
Requirements: A Masters degree and university teaching experience in a relevant subject area are required for this position, PhD preferred. Candidates must already have right to work in the UK.
The salary for this position, commensurate with level of academic experience, is in the range of £3,300-£4,400.
