Why CQ at UW-Whitewater? The Chancellor’s Office, the Center for Global Education, and the Division of Student Affairs are teaming up to introduce CQ to students, faculty and staff. Our goal is to enable us all to better understand our own cultural intelligence and its importance with respect to creating an inclusive and welcoming campus environment, to promoting cross-cultural adaptability and decision-making, and to enhancing one’s learning and job performance.
How can I become certified to utilize CQ assessments to help others improve their cultural intelligence? The Cultural Intelligence (CQ) Center will conduct a 1.5-day, interactive certification program for 15 UW-W staff and faculty on the Whitewater campus from January 12-13, 2017. The cost of training will be covered by the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (a $2,095 value). Please note: we are unable to provide stipends to participants; coffee and breakfast snacks will be provided both days, as well as lunch on the 12 th.
What is the purpose of the CQ Level 1 Certification training program? 1. To introduce participants to the Cultural Intelligence research and its relevance to UWW’s mission and vision; 2. To increase participants’ awareness of their own CQ strengths and weaknesses; 3. To equip participants to effectively facilitate CQ development among faculty, staff, and/or students, and to administer and de-brief CQ assessments; and 4. To interact about how the CQ material can be integrated with existing UW-W programs, curriculum, faculty training and staff professional development.
Participants will take the CQ Multi-Rater Assessment prior to the training to enhance their personal awareness and ability to use the assessments and training with others. During the workshop, participants will receive their personalized feedback reports along with additional materials to support their understanding and application of CQ in their work at UW-Whitewater.
How can I become certified during UW-Whitewater’s first on-campus CQ Certification Program? These first 15 faculty and staff selected to be certified in CQ will commit to utilizing the CQ framework and assessment tool with a specific cohort of UW-Whitewater students, staff or faculty during the 2017 calendar year. These 15 individuals also will commit to becoming an in-house team of CQ Facilitators who share best practices and work together to introduce CQ to campus peers who could benefit from becoming certified and utilizing CQ with the cohorts with whom they interact. For this reason we are seeking applicants from all colleges and divisions on campus.
