Create a Culture Explorer Market
Using Economic concepts you have learned in Social Studies, your group will create a business, then create, market, and sell a cultural product. Your product or service has to be completely created and produced by your group. You will also be able to buy other students’ products using EXPLORER BUCKS at a morning called the Explorer World Market. The market will be in May----tentatively scheduled for May 23rd during 1st, 2nd, and 3rd periods. Your group members will need to create a product/service that will either demonstrate or teach your consumers about your country’s culture. You will need to creatively produce a product/service that your buyers will not only want to buy but also inform them about some aspect of your country’s culture.
How do I participate? 1. Create a product or service to sell. 2. Apply for a business contract using EXPLORER BUCKS. 3. Design a booth for your shop that also educates your consumers about your country. 4. Have your product/service ready to sell during the Explorer Market. 5. Passing all core classes for the 4th grading period by May 18th.
Note: What will you do instead? Have a regular day in a classroom with regular work to complete during the time of the Explorer Market.
What is the Business Contract? 1. Your group will need to complete a contract describing your product/service. It will be approved on a first come, first served basis. There will only be so many food booths, activity booths, games booths approved so as to provide a variety of products for sale. 2. The Contract will need to be signed by a parent of each group member, and your SS teacher to approve your idea. Once an idea is approved, it cannot be changed. 3. Each Contract will need to be accompanied by a Contract Fee of 200 BUCKS. 4. Patents will be allowed for an extra Fee of $100 BUCKS….but only if the item/product/service is unique. (again, on first come, first served basis)
What kinds of items can we sell? 1. The key is INEXPENSIVE. Lots of things can be made that kids enjoy without spending very much. In the past, students have sold items or services like: handcrafted jewelry, headbands, arts and crafts gifts, activities (short games), photo booths, etc. Remember your product/service must represent the culture created by your group and educates your consumer about your country. 2. Students should not spend a lot of money. We are not using real money to buy items, we are using our EXPLORER BUCKS only. Hand made items are usually the most popular. Look online for ideas. Talk to your parents! CONTRACT
