CANOE BUILDER REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL (RFP) SAMHSA, Nooksack Way of Life Program

The Nooksack Indian Tribe’s SAMHSA Program is accepting Requests for Proposals for a Canoe Builder that can construct a traditional 11 paddle racing canoe, no less than 48 feet yet no more than 54 feet in length and at least 29 inches yet no more than 38 inches wide.

The Canoe Builder must have knowledge of Coast Salish canoe designs and construction. The finished product must have a head, tail, back rests, foot braces and seats with a finish varnish or paint outside and inside. The Canoe Builder must have teaching skills to explain the process of constructing Coast Salish racing canoes to Nooksack Tribal youth.

The project needs to be completed before April 31 and delivered by the first week in May. The Canoe must be satisfactorily accepted by the SAMHSA Chemical Dependency Prevention Supervisor and delivered to the Nooksack Tribal canoe storage facility (West Side).

Requests for Proposal are due by 5 p.m. on Feb. 2.

RFP Instructions: 1. Provide information on the experiences with and knowledge of Coast Salish canoe designs and construction. 2. Provide information on why you would be the best candidate to explain the process of constructing a Coast Salish racing canoe to Tribal youth. 3. Present a one-time cost estimate and work plan for the construction of a Coast Salish 11 paddle racing canoe. 4. Provide liability insurance coverage of $1 million per occurrence /$2 million general liability and list the Nooksack Indian Tribe in the coverage. Insurance can be purchased upon notification as the successful bidder.
