PRELIMINARY ANNOUNCEMENT
Condensed Teacher Certification Program in Computer Science
The Department of Computer Science at Texas A&M University will offer a short summer program of instruction aimed at helping 20 secondary school computer science teachers achieve Teacher Certification in Computer Science.
Goals of the Program: . Offer courses that will contribute toward certification in Computer Science. . Help prepare Computer Science teachers for the transition to Java in the Advanced Placement Program. . Improve the qualifications and level of expertise among computer science teachers. . Increase the level of awareness and interest in computer science as a career among high school students of the State of Texas.
Benefits of Participation . Progress toward teaching certification in computer science. . Continuing education hours. . Summer stipend of $500 per week ($1500 for the seminar) for tuition, fees, textbook, and housing. . Preparation for Advanced Placement Computer Science courses in Java.
Dates: Computer Programming in Java (AP Computer Science A) July 5-22, 2005
How to apply: . Complete application form (available on line at http://faculty.cs.tamu.edu/daugher/ ) . Include a one-page essay (see application) . Obtain letter of recommendation from school principal . Mail, fax, or email application, essay, principal’s recommendation, and college transcripts to the contact address below
Criteria for Selection: . Secondary computer science teacher in the state of Texas . Recommendation from school principal . Application and personal statement
