2016 NEWSLETTER : WEEK 16 – AUGUST 6 - 7 Goodwin 114 & hat-trick for CBH WHILE Alderley Edge got back on an even keel after their hiccup the previous week, the chasing pack of Bowdon, Hyde and Chester Boughton Hall all won to keep up the ECB Premier League pressure, it was CBH who made Saturday’s headlines. After piling up 303-6 in a high-scoring draw at Toft the previous week, CBH this time declared after 42 overs at 324- 4 before bowling out wooden spoonists Urmston for 87. In the Chester innings, Rick Moore (156) and Warren Goodwin (114) put on 216 for the first wicket, both recording their fourth centuries of the season and now total 885 and 704 League runs respectively. Plaudits to Craig Wilson, meanwhile, for a plucky 4-91. Urmston reached 83-3 in reply (Brad Yates 45) when Goodwin came on to record figures of 4-3-4-5, including a hat- trick as Urmies lost their last five wickets without scoring to close on 87. Despite these histrionics, CBH remain fourth, 49 points behind Alderley, who beat Timperley by six wickets. David Hurst blasted a mighty 91 not out off 85 balls when Neston replied with a rapid 210-5. The Dabbers totalled 203, Ryan Brown 47, John Dooler 4-62 and Cheadle made it at 204-7, Dan Brown 79. Shropshire are title favourites SHROPSHIRE’s 70-runs victory over Cheshire at Nantwich in the Unicorns County championship match ending on Tuesday last week sets them up as strong favourites for the West division title. With one game remaining – against lowly Wiltshire at Devizes – Shropshire lead Berkshire by five points. With fourth place in prospect, Cheshire’s last game is against bottom team Oxfordshire at Banbury from Sunday – Tuesday (11 a.m.daily). Cheshire gave a decent account of themselves against strong opposition on a good cricket pitch at Nantwich, but their attack lacked a cutting edge, apart from Dan Woods’ first innings 5-80 and 4-56 from Jack Williams’ in the second. The batting was short of patience to emulate the two quality half-centuries scored by Rick Moore. Batting first, Shropshire ran up 330 (Steve Elstone 114, David Wainwright 95, Dan Woods 5-80, Ash Davis 2-60). Cheshire replied with 234, Moore top scoring with 66, aided by Lee Dixon 43, all-rounder Wainwright taking 5-63. Shropshire declared their second innings of the last day at 204-6 giving them a lead of 300, Jack Williams enjoying the best figures with 4-56. Cheshire batted positively in the final innings, Moore (a second 66) again impressing, while Ryan Brown was out for 49 and Jack Williams for a hard-earned 32. Shropshire’s excellent spinners Wainwright and Henry Blofield were the key men, claiming 5-91 and 4-60 respectively. O CHESHIRE ACADEMY meet Cumberland in their final game at Sale on Tuesday and Wednesday this week (11 a.m. daily).
