Memorandum for Record

Subject: IFAK/ Ventilator kits

Mein herren;

The purpose of the 42nd Alpine Infantry Group is to provide a legitimate deterrent to the forces of tyranny. In order to accomplish this goal, we must become a well tuned and highly capable fighting force. The training we engage in is inherently dangerous and often includes the use of firearms and live fire exercises.

It is essential to the safety and well being of all members of the 42nd AIG that adequate medical supplies, and the knowledge to use them are available to deal with a life threatening injury instantly without delay.

It shall be the policy of the 42nd AIG that Infantry First Aid Kits (IFAK), or “blowout kits” shall be mandatory for all members of the unit. The Purpose of the “blowout kit” is to deal with immediate life threatening conditions caused by combat trauma. The “blowout kit” is not for minor injuries, or to be used as a general purpose first aid kit. The kit shall be carried at all times when firearms training is occurring, or in the event of field exercises or real world operations at all points forward of the assembly area. Members of the 42nd AIG shall not be considered deployable until a fully serviceable IFAK is presented for inspection to the team member’s medic. This is a GO/NO GO item.

The IFAK shall consist of the following items:

 2 four inch Israeli battle dressings

 1 Combat Application Tourniquet (CAT). This shall be the only tourniquet authorized for carry by members of the 42nd AIG. The tourniquet shall be carried in such a manner that it can be accessed by either hand.

 1 Asherman Chest Seal

 1 pair of EMT trauma shears

 1 packet of Celox hemostatic agent, or Celox “combat gauze”

 1 roll of 2 inch medical tape Washington State Constitutional Militia Jaeger Troop, 42nd Alpine Infantry Group

 1 pair of gloves

 4 4x4 gauze sponges

 1 chemical light

 1 nasal airway (sized for you),with lubricant

 1 Sharpie, or other permanent marker

 1 casualty card, pre populated with your pertinent medical information to include:

1. Name

2. Blood Type

3. Current medications

4. Medication Allergies

5. Medical Conditions

A separate card, attached to the first one; and laminated to prevent damage shall be carried by all members of the 42nd AIG with the following message:

The bearer of this card is a lawful combatant, as recognized by the third Geneva Conventions and must be treated in accordance with international law.

Art 2. In addition to the provisions which shall be implemented in peace time, the present Convention shall apply to all cases of declared war or of any other armed conflict which may arise between two or more of the High Contracting Parties, even if the state of war is not recognized by one of them.

Art 4. A. Prisoners of war, in the sense of the present Convention, are persons belonging to one of the following categories, who have fallen into the power of the enemy: (1) Members of the armed forces of a Party to the conflict, as well as members of militias or volunteer corps forming part of such armed forces.

(2) Members of other militias and members of other volunteer corps, including those of organized resistance movements, belonging to a Party to the conflict and operating in or outside their own territory, even if this territory is occupied, provided that such militias or volunteer corps, including such organized resistance movements, fulfill the following conditions: (a) that of being commanded by a person responsible for his subordinates; (b) that of having a fixed distinctive sign recognizable at a distance; (c) that of carrying arms openly; (d) that of conducting their operations in accordance with the laws and customs of war.

Art 7. Prisoners of war may in no circumstances renounce in part or in entirety the rights secured to them by the present Convention. Washington State Constitutional Militia Jaeger Troop, 42nd Alpine Infantry Group

Art 17. Every prisoner of war, when questioned on the subject, is bound to give only his surname, first names and rank, date of birth, and army, regimental, personal or serial number, or failing this, equivalent information. No physical or mental torture, nor any other form of coercion, may be inflicted on prisoners of war to secure from them information of any kind whatever. Prisoners of war who refuse to answer may not be threatened, insulted, or exposed to unpleasant or disadvantageous treatment of any kind.

All IFAK kits shall be contained in a pouch, or pocket on the team members non firing side and shall be marked either with a piece of red tape, or a red cross. The tourniquet shall be carried outside of the pouch in such a way as to allow use by either hand.

Initial “care under fire” will be performed on the patient with their own IFAK. DO NOT USE YOUR KIT ON ANOTHER PERSON.

I thank you in advance for your prompt attention and cooperation with this important issue! The goal here is to save lives, and by complying with this mandate all members stand a considerably higher chance of surviving combat trauma. If you have any questions, contact your team’s medic.
