Global Day of Prayer – 27 May 2007
Newsletter no. 2 - British Isles (May 2007)
As we have 16 days to go to the start of the 10 days of 24-7 prayer around the world and 26 days until Pentecost Sunday, 27th May, it is time to be in touch to let you know more about the Third Global Day of Prayer.
Graham Power, the Chairman of the Global Day of Prayer writes: ‘In 2005 (the first Global Day of Prayer), 156 nations joined in prayer. Last year 199 nations participated, and now we are trusting GOD for the “miracle” in which all 220 nations of the world will join on a day of Repentance and Prayer on Pentecost Sunday 2007. Of the 21 nations which did not participate in 2006, good progress is being made (for a full list please go to www.globaldayofprayer.com). If you have contacts within these Nations, please do assist in encouraging them to make contact and to join in this God given vision. Will we see, (for the first time in the history of the world), that All Nations join together for a day of Repentance and Prayer?
I am reminded of a dream which a friend has shared with me a few months ago, in which God showed him how a dark cloud was hovering over the Globe, and that at every one of these prayer gatherings on GDOP, an opening, like a cylinder of light was opened from Heaven to each of these gatherings, that Angels were ascending and descending freely, and that warring Angels were protecting and guarding this cylinder of light, such that it would never be closed again. What an awesome message from God.’
Here in the UK we are encouraged! We have 23 registered places so far – and we know that many others are linking in, especially churches using part or all of their Sunday services.

Many places are linking in with the global 10 days of prayer before Pentecost Sunday by organising 24-7 prayer rooms (e.g. Luton, York, Redditch, York, and Gillingham) and plans for 90 days of blessing is being worked out in many places.

Northern Ireland, which has been a forerunner hosting events at Stormont for the last 2 years, is marking the Day with at least 10 intergenerational and interdenominational events across the Province. www.transformations-ireland.org Edinburgh will host the culmination of the 50 days prayer walk of Scotland, which will take the form of a prayer march down the Royal Mile, ending at Holyrood Park for a GDoP celebration. www.connectingscotland.com; www.edinburghprayer.org Three Anglican ‘Cathedral’s will be hosting events: York Minister for the 3rd consecutive year and Beverley Minister and Norwich Cathedral for the first time. www.onevoiceyork.org.uk, www.thereishope.co.uk, www.networknorwich.co.uk/Publisher/ArticlePrintable.aspx?id+72938 Global Day of Prayer – 27 May 2007
Events are taking place in the open air e.g. in Northampton and St Leonards, E Sussex. Many local churches are taking part in joint interdenominational events taking place e.g. Luton www.transformingluton.org.uk, Isleworth (Middlesex), Lee (SE12), and Central Hall Southampton www.southamptonchristiannetwork.org.uk. Celebrate Life – Redditch – a partnership of 13 churches and the Counties organisation have booked Redditch Football Stadium and are setting up a 24-7 prayer room for the week. www.gdopredditch.org.uk . Another stadium citywide church event is planned in Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, home of Sunderland football club. More details on the UK GDOP website. London is planning to host what will be the largest single event here in the UK and if you are not involved in a local event all are invited to West Ham Stadium, Upton Park E13. London has undertaken a 24-7 year of unbroken prayer from 1.1.07 to 31.12.07 and is calling for a month of fasting during May. For details on how to book tickets and all that is being planned www.gdoplondon.com.
SUMMIT ’07 --- Praying on the high places In many nations, people plan to go to the “high places” in their Villages, Towns or Cities (be that a hill or mountain) to “lift up your voice with a shout” Isaiah 40:9. You may wish to encourage the youth and others to climb the hill / mountain in your region. Graham Power has agreed to join about 100 people in climbing Kilimanjaro (the 2nd highest mountain in the world), to hopefully the summit on the 27 May, to pray from this highest place in Africa.

It, along with the Background Guide (which is good for leading others in prayer) is downloadable from www.globaldayofprayer.com. Alternatively, you can access daily prayers via Waymakers who print and produce the guide in the USA www.waymakers.org. Thy Kingdom Come is a 50 day prayer guide for London available from www.gdoplondon.com/resources. Do get a copy of the DVD – Feedback 2006 which contains: Global Day of Prayer 2006, 24-7 prayer around the world and Video reports of Youth initiatives from http://www.mss-direct.com/shop/home.php?cat=256
Globally The number of nations registered is around 163 and rising! It is thrilling to see on the main website that 34 European nations (in addition to the UK) are taking part. More than 20 countries and regions have either developed their own Global Day of Prayer website or created a special page on an existing website.
‘Watch and Pray’ I hope that you are encouraged and that you will be able to link in (whether in your own church or by travelling to another event here in the UK) to stand together with others to pray so that “the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea” Hab. 2:14.
I will send you a brief report on 2007 towards the end of June. Pentecost Sunday is on 11 May 2008. I will be meeting with others to plan for this in July 2007 and will be in touch in the early autumn. Jane
