FRIENDS OF CALEDON PUBLIC LIBRARY MONTHLY MEETING Tuesday, October 18, 2011 – Alton Branch – 7:00 pm

1) Welcome Heather chaired the meeting starting at 7:00 and welcomed everyone to the Alton Branch. Our meeting coincided with the Branch celebration of the Library Launch and found the premises nicely decorated and filled with patrons and children anxious to enter the “Haunted House” setup. Laura was selling the new car magnets and Barbara joined her.

3) Approval of Minutes: Monthly Meeting – Tuesday, September 20, 2011 a) No corrections or additions

b) Business arising from minutes: b.i) Doug has located a supplier for the “giant” reusable cheque in Alberta. The cost is $150 plus tax and shipping. A decision will be deferred to our next meeting; Heather will advise Marty by email. b.ii)Approval of Minutes: moved by Helen, seconded by Barbara, carried

4) Treasurer’s Report

Pam presented her report noting since the previous meeting $705 has been deposited, arising from:

Income: $283.25 (Branch launch), $90 (membership), $125 (magnets) and $250 (donation from Ena Mellor, one of the founding members of the FOCPL.

Expense: $50 – registration in Friends of Canadian Libraries

Approval: Moved by Pam, seconded by Heather; carried.

6) October Library Launch and Branch Celebrations/car magnet sales

November 11, 2017 Page 1 HTY a) The October 1st launch at the Albion Bolton Branch was a great success with numerous guests, entertainment and refreshments. The initial sales of car magnets raised $125 with another $185 from the book sale.

b) Mary reported on the formation of the Library Champion Campaign with its own Facebook page. This campaign acknowledges the support of the Caledon Public Libraries by local businesses with reciprocal exposure. Its introduction has been very successful.

7) Event Planning Progress Reports

a) SCRABBLE: Doug reports that response from the “stars” has been very low at this time, and high school students don’t play the board game any more, unless they play online. A decision has been deferred to the next meeting.

b) BOLOTON FARMER’S MARKET: There was a very good response on the last two days of this year’s schedule, with Diane Sawyer selling many videos and car magnets. A motion was made that the Friends would support the Market next year on the June Children’s Day.

c) MDV SHOP EARLY: Hilary reports that 13 vendors have confirmed; she will check with Diane Sawyer who expressed an interest in participating as a vendor. She is planning the layout of the room; signs and posters have been made by Monica.

d) ALTON TREE LIGHTING: Sylvia confirmed the date as December 7th starting at 6:00 pm at the Alton Branch. There will be Christmas singing, refreshments and Morris Dancers. Thee food will be provided by the community, and CPL will provide hot chocolate, etc. Sylvia noted the event was very successful last year.

8) Planning ahead

a) WINTER/JANUARY 2012 NEWSLETTER: The focus will be on golf. Monica hopes to have the first draft ready by the November 15th meeting and issue in early January. Suggested content includes photos of the MDV Shop Early event and the Alton Haunted House; the upcoming AGM; the 2011 winning poem; a list of all the winners of the past year; and dates of future events, i.e., Book Sale April 20-21 and Theatre Night April 27. Mary noted the new library website will be launched on October 31st and will include content from FOCPL.

b) 2ND ANNUAL MINI GOLF DAY FEBRUARY 19TH – Invitations are to go out in early November; Heather will advise Marty. A sub-committee of the CPL, Heather, Pam and Marty has been formed to organize the event.

a) Hilary will attend the MDV launch party and tree planting on Oct. 22nd at 1:00pm

b) No one is available at this time for the Belfountain launch on Oct. 27 at 3:00pm

c) Heather, Karen, Pam and Doug are available for the Caledon East launch on Oct. 29th at 1:00pm

d) A Friend will have to attend MDV to look after the book dedication; Mary will ensure Hilary has everything she needs.
