Assignment With your partner or on your own, select and sign up for one of the poems above and then complete the following tasks:

1. Develop a written response to your poem:

 Complete a poetry explication using the form provided in class as a model.  Print the lyrics of a current song or a modern poem that has a message similar to your poem and provide a written explanation of the similarity you have found.  Prepare a bibliography of all works you used as resources.

Continue to the back for instructions on the visual/technical component of the assignment.

------

DUE DATE and REQUIREMENTS: All parts of the assignment are due on 12/18/12 before break. These items are required for full credit.

 Your typed explication and bibliography of resources.  Your visual/technical presentation must be submitted for uploading no later than 12/18/12 with all elements required for viewing. 2. Create a visual presentation of your explication using Prezi or Glogster.

 The title and the poem (see me for very long poems).

 An effective reading of your poem (done yourself or by a professional reader).

 Related biographical information about the poet, the time period in which he wrote, and his literary acclaim.

 An explanation of the poem’s meaning and message.

 Examples of five important poetic devices used in the poem (refer to your poetry chart for examples).

For each device you have chosen to include, explain its connection to the poem’s overall meaning. Do not use rhyme scheme, tone, or theme as one of your devices since they are already included on your explication.

 A minimum of five visuals and/or graphics which are appropriate, neat, and have a clear connection to the poem.

 Explanation of how the poem expresses the thoughts of the time period in which it was written.

 A connection to a modern poem or a song that provides a similar message. Include two-three sentences that explain the connection.

After break, all students in 3rd and 4th blocks will use your uploaded presentations to complete study guides for the assigned poems. It is essential that you make certain all information is accurate, thorough, well-organized, and user-friendly. See me for help!!
