Vice President Finance and Administration Ohio University seeks nominations and applications for a critical member of its senior leadership team—the Vice President of Finance and Administration. Established in 1804, the University is the oldest public institution of higher learning in the state of Ohio and the first in the Northwest Territory. Located in the scenic Appalachian foothills, its classic residential campus in Athens, Ohio, is one of the most attractive in the nation. A comprehensive, national university, Ohio University offers both distinctive, high quality undergraduate education and excellent, focused graduate education, including a College of Osteopathic Medicine. The University’s educational mission is strengthened by its dedication to research and creative activity and a fundamental service commitment to its region. The educational mission is realized in a residential setting on the 1,300-acre main campus in Athens, as well as through outreach on five regional campuses in Chillicothe, Ironton, Lancaster, St. Clairsville, and Zanesville. Collectively, the full-time, part-time, and continuing education enrollment for Ohio University is 30,000. The University’s annual budget is $650 million, with approximately 30 percent of its revenues provided by the State of Ohio. The University employees more than 4,800 employees, including 1,100 full time faculty and 750 part time faculty. The multifaceted mission of the office is to support the university’s academic objectives and to serve the fundamental needs of the human, physical, and ecological environment of the university community. The Vice President also serves as Treasurer of the Ohio University Foundation. The Vice President is the chief fiscal officer, charged with the fiduciary integrity of the university and leadership for human, financial, and physical resources. The Vice President has direct responsibility for the budget office, controller function, treasury, human resource services, physical plant, campus planning, design and construction services, police, safety and risk management, dining and retail, and business services. The Vice President for Finance and Administration provides leadership for the coordination, integration, and support of the various services, programs, management function and activities within Finance and Administration. The Vice President also serves in a statewide leadership role, leading the statewide chief financial officers group of the Inter-University Council. The incumbent guides the development, implementation, and monitoring of Ohio University's operating and capital budgets, from multiple sources of funding (general funds, auxiliary enterprises, self-support operations, private donations, and capital construction). The incumbent also oversees the development, implementation, revision and integration of institutional policies and means of compliance with institutional policy and applicable state and federal laws. The position reports directly to the President and serves as a member of the President’s Council and Executive Staff. The Vice President, in partnership with the Executive Vice President and Provost, plays key roles in institutional planning and positioning, forging community partnerships, and in advancing Ohio University's presence in the region, state, and nation. The Vice President has a significant role in representing Ohio University to the Ohio Board of Regents and participates in statewide committees and initiatives. Qualifications: Candidates must have a record of significant administrative achievement in a research university, a state government system or in health care administration; familiarity and/or experience with responsibility-centered budgeting; demonstrated ability in a broad array of financial areas; the ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and collegially with the many constituencies whose contributions are required for the success of the university; a Master’s degree or equivalent in nature and length of experiences; significant successful leadership, management, and financial experience in a senior administrative capacity, preferably in higher education or in a state government system; evidence of strong organizational, analytical, supervisory, motivational skills, including the ability to elicit trust and confidence; experience with integrating financial and strategic planning; knowledge of best practices throughout all financial and administrative functions; ability to think creatively and strategically; and an understanding of the compelling mission, challenges, and governance of public higher education.
