…performed extensive research—including staff focus groups—and engaged in ongoing, in-depth conversations with Dan Rives, Associate Vice President for University Human Resources Services, seeking short-term disability income protection options for university staff.
…created its own Diversity Committee which has drafted its own mission statement on combating racism and other forms of prejudice as well as promoting diversity. The committee is programming speakers on diversity and racism for Spring 2007.
…reached out to the IUPUI Police Department regarding various, including those of pedestrian safety. The Council successfully lobbied for increased enforcement of stop signs outside of Cavanaugh Hall
…solicited, compiled, and shared [with campus administrators] staff feedback on: . the campus tobacco ban . the position description and goals for the Chief Diversity Officer . the assessment and levy of fee courtesy benefits . campus food service issues . staff pay status on snow days
…sent members to represent the staff on and to the Public Safety Committee, IUPUI Faculty Council, Parking Advisory Committee, doubling task forces, and the Board of Trustees (re: the search for IU’s next President as well as on proposed administrative restructuring).
…solicited a letter from Chancellor Bantz urging supervisor support for and accommodation of continuing education, campus citizenship, and professional development among staff.
…awarded supplemental scholarships—in honor of Carol D. Nathan—to six full-time staff members with at least 12 hours of credit towards an associate, baccalaureate, or graduate degree.
…awarded the Spirit Award and $100 to a dozen outstanding staff members in honor of former Chancellor Gerald Bepko.
…collected and donated multiple hundreds of used cell phones to benefit the Indiana Coalition against Domestic Violence.
… participated as a group in the Race for the Cure, Chili for Charity, and Jam the Jaguar Bus food drives.
…educated its constituents about countless professional development opportunities, staff surveys, Work/Life programs, campus programs, civic engagement opportunities, events (like Campus Day, Explore IUPUI, the Annual Health & Benefits Fair), Council-sponsored fellowship activities (like “Staff Night at the Jags Game”), HRA issues (like Open Enrollment and benefit revisions), community scholarships, lecture series, and campus/university policy changes.
