An Introduction to Fly Fishing for Children and Adolescents 10-18 years-old

The Gulf Coast Council of Federation of Fly Fishers, in cooperation with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, are providing a 2 ½ hour course introducing fly fishing to our youth at no cost to parents. The classroom instruction and hands-on activities will provide a basic understanding of the sport. After completing the session, the participants will have the skills needed to take their first steps along the path to a life-long enjoyment of this sport.

When: Saturday, April 10, 2010 from 1:30-4:00 p.m. Where: Convention and Civic Center, New Braunfels, Texas Cost: Free

Topics Covered in the Course:

1. Fly Tying –Learn to tie a simple classic fly pattern 2. Casting – Learn to assemble a fly rod and how to make a 4-point cast 3. Knot Tying –Learn to tie a number of basic knots that will be needed when fishing 4. Aquatic Habitat –Learn the importance of our many different aquatic environments in Texas. In particular, learn how it supports the aquatic insects as well as other organisms present in our Texas fresh water tributaries. This unique session will be presented by Ms. Ann Miller the TPWD Aquatic Education Coordinator.

Awards

Following completion of the class, the participants will receive TPWD Basic Fly Fishing Certificate, Pin, Fish Identification Card and other related course handouts.
