The Gentlemen’s League Facilitator Guide for Dress for Success

Materials Needed for Success: - Powerpoint, Chart Paper, Markers, Technology (Powerpoint, Video Clip), Personal Hygiene Sheet

Purpose of Session:  This session will focus on personal hygiene, the do and don’ts of dressing up, and teaching students how to tie a tie.

Agenda:  Ice Breaker (~5 minutes) -Facilitator can choose any ice breaker to conduct with students.

 Personal Hygiene Discussion (~15 minutes) -Facilitator will ask students to answer the following questions: a. What is personal hygiene? b. Why do we need to maintain good personal hygiene? c. What are some things we can do to maintain our personal hygiene?

- Personal Hygiene Activity a. Facilitator will give each student a slip of paper that has either a product or an action. b. The task is to match the product with the appropriate action. c. For example: Product- Going on a date; Action- Iron clothes, shave, bathe, brush teeth

 The do’s and don’t of business dress (~20 minutes)

1. Facilitator will inform students of some statistics pertaining to making impressions. - 55 % of another person’s perception of you is based on how you look. - Dress for the job you want, not the job you have. - “75% of recruiters believe that how a person dresses for work affects one's job, salary, and possible promotions” (http://wingsforsuccess.org) - “Your first impression is always a lasting impression.”

2. Facilitator will discuss and provide examples of the following- Business Professional, Business Ready, Business Casual, Casual

3. Facilitator will provide tips for dressing up.

4. Facilitator will discuss the do’s and don't’s of dressing up.

5. Facilitator will show different pictures with different attires and students will raise their hand to guess what style of attire it is.

 How to tie a tie (~15 minutes) 1. Facilitator will show a video on how to tie a necktie. 2. Facilitator will model how to tie a tie, and circulate room, providing assistance. 3. Students will successfully tie a tie.  Announcements/Reminder (5 minutes) -Facilitator will check in with students, and give them updates.
