JIRA Installation

1. Download the Red Hat Installer from:

https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/download?_ga=1.199986861.2008202844.1461788945

2. Make the bin file an executable

chmod a+x atlassian-jira-x.y.bin

3. Install JIRA as a service as user 'root'

* create a jira user account 'sudo useradd --create-home -c "JIRA ROLE" jira'

* installation directory = 'mkdir /opt/atlassian/jira' and 'chown jira: /opt/atlassian/jira'

Configure which ports JIRA Software will use.

JIRA requires two TCP ports that are not being used by any other applications on this machine. The HTTP port is where you will access JIRA through your browser. The Control port is used to startup and shutdown JIRA.

Use default ports (HTTP: 8080, Control: 8005) - Recommended [1, Enter], Set custom value for HTTP and Control ports [2] 1

JIRA can be run in the background.

You may choose to run JIRA as a service, which means it will start automatically whenever the computer restarts.
