General Instructions

 The CCDP designation is a "warrant of competence" or "warrant of expertise."  Successful completion of BCCDA’s certification process confers the right to use the title Certified Career Development Professional and the right to use the initials CCDP after one’s name.  Application for the CCDP designation is voluntary. Applicants must fulfill all criteria for certification through a combination of education, work experience, and evidence of competency.  There is no application deadline. Applications are received on an on-going basis and are reviewed monthly.

A. CCDP Certification Criteria Summary All applicants must satisfy 5 criteria before submitting their CCDP application. 1. Education and Work Experience 2. BCCDA Professional Membership 3. Mandatory Courses - Ethics and Theories 4. Career Practitioner Competencies and Areas of Specialization 5. Professional References

1. Education and Work Experience Applicants must satisfy at least one of the following combinations of education and work experience and must submit official transcripts from the educational institution as part of their application. There are six categories:

 Category 1. Related Masters degree in Career/Employment Development and at least 1 year full- time or an equivalent amount of part-time related paid qualifying work experience.  Category 2. Related Bachelors degree in Career/Employment Development and at least 2 years full-time or an equivalent amount of part-time related paid qualifying work experience.  Category 3. Related Diploma/Associate Degree (min. 400 hours) in Career/Employment Development and at least 3 years full-time or an equivalent amount of part-time related paid qualifying work experience.  Category 4. Related Certificate (min. 200 hours) in Career/Employment Development and at least 4 years full-time or an equivalent amount of part-time related paid qualifying work experience  Category 5. Unrelated degree and at least 4 years full-time or an equivalent amount of part-time related paid qualifying work experience  Category 6. Employment Pathway: Minimum of 8000 hours of paid qualifying work experience in the past 10 years

Note: “Full-time” means at least 30 hours of paid work in one week. One year of full-time work is at least 1560 hours. Candidates who apply using international paid work experience must have at least one year paid work experience in Canada.

2. BCCDA Professional Membership. Applicants must be a current, individual voting member of the BCCDA. Membership is required for the Association to have continued jurisdiction over the member and over continued use of the CCDP designation. Successful applicants must maintain their BCCDA membership to maintain their CCDP certification.

3. Mandatory Courses. Completion of two mandatory courses (Ethics and Career Development Theories) either within your educational program or taken separately.

4. Career Practitioner Competencies & Areas of Specialization. Applicants must provide evidence for how he or she has demonstrated all 4 of the core competencies and 3 of the 6 areas of specialization outlined in the Canadian Standards and Guidelines for Career Practitioners through experience or training.

5. Professional References. Two references are required to support your application. One must be a detailed reference using the official CCDP Reference Form. The second reference may be a more typical reference letter supporting your CCDP application.

B. Payment

 Applications must be accompanied by a payment of the CCDP application fee of $157.50 (GST included). Certification application fees are non-refundable.  If the applicant is not currently a BCCDA member, the CCDP application must be accompanied by a membership application and appropriate membership dues.  Application will be paused if not accompanied by a payment of the CCDP application fee.  Applicant can pay online through BCCDA website or send a cheque to BCCDA. Section 1: Application Checklist- Required Documents

Please read through the Certification Guidelines for CCDP carefully. DO NOT include any information that: a) has not been requested or b) is in violation of the BCCDA Code of Ethics and the Privacy Act (i.e. anything that would reveal the identities/names or personal information of clients such as individual workshop evaluations or client thank you cards) unless signed consent has been obtained.

The following items must be submitted to BCCDA as one package. Items will not be accepted if sent separately. For each item listed below, please place a check mark (√) in the box to signify that it is included as part of your application package. Complete the application. Section 5. Education and Work Experience: Please provide one copy of official academic transcripts to support education requirement. Section 6. Mandatory Courses – Ethics & Theories: If courses are on the BCCDA pre-approved list, simply attach photocopies of course completion documents. If not, provide one copy of official academic transcripts if courses have been taken separately from the main education program indicated in Section 5. Section 7. Standards and Guidelines Competencies: If your education program was NOT specifically in career/employment development or Vocational Rehabilitation, write short paragraphs describing how you have demonstrated the core competencies required by the Canadian Standards and Guidelines for Career Practitioners through work experience or training. Section 8. Other Related Training: Not required unless it supports specific competencies/specialties in Section 9 and only if needed as extra supporting evidence. Section 9. Employment History: Please list sufficient employment history to evidence the required years under the application category. Attach an up-to-date resume, plus job descriptions (or similar) for each job claimed. Majority of paid work experience claimed must be directly related to the employment/career development sectors. Section 10. Professional References: Provide one reference on the CCDP Reference form and a second regular reference letter supporting your application. Section 11. Please include it with your CCDP application.

*Notes: 1. BCCDA will use the name provided above on your CCDP certificate 2. It is the practitioner’s responsibility to promptly submit any changes to his or her contact information to the BCCDA, including change of name, address, email and phone number. 3. Your name and city of residence will be posted on the BCCDA website, as long as you remain a BCCDA member in good standing. This will allow other members, employers, and clients to identify current CCDP holders and therefore BCCDA members. As a member, you are taken to have consented to publication of your name and city, unless you request that it not occur. Section 5. Education and Work Experience

To automatically meet the education criteria, all education and work experience must be in Career/Employment Development or a related field. Please refer to the Certification Criteria to determine which category to select.

Note that official transcripts from the educational institution are required and must be included with your application. Please read carefully and select the categories that you wish to apply (you can select multiple categories to apply- the Reviewer Committee will decide the most applicable category to your file)

One year of full-time work is at least 1560 hours.  Candidates who apply using international paid work experience must have at least one year paid work experience in Canada.  Applicants must have obtained their core education from an accredited or government approved institu tion of higher education in Canada or one that is approved by BCCDA.  Applicants with certificates, diplomas, or degrees from other countries must provide evidence that their degree is from an accredited or government approved institution or submit a credential recognition doc ument from a government or university-approved ICES or PLAR service.  Applicant’s educational programs or degrees for categories 1 through 4 must be in Career/Employmen t Development, Vocational Rehabilitation, or in the following related fields: Psychology, Sociology, Co unselling, Education, Human Resources Management, Social Work or Marketing.

Section 6. Mandatory Courses – Ethics & Theories All applicants are required to attach proof of completion for 2 courses: (1) Ethics and Professional Conduct and (2) Career Development Theories. You must complete both courses prior to applying for the CCDP designation. These courses may have been part of the education program claimed in Section 5, or taken separately to meet this requirement.

Note: 1. For Ethics and Career Development Theories Courses that are not on the pre-approved list, the applicant will need to provide a course outline or description and official transcripts as evidence that the course meets Criteria 3. 2. The Ethics component may be from the counselling or education fields. When this is the case, the applicant must provide evidence of that the course covered topics relevant and applicable to Career and Employment services. 3. For a list of Pre-Approved Ethics and Career Development Theories Courses, see Appendix A in the CCDP Certification Criteria

Section 7. Standards and Guidelines Competencies

 Provide evidence of competency in all 4 Core Competencies and 3 out of 6 Areas of Specialization required by the Canadian Standards and Guidelines for Career Practitioners  In both the Core Competencies and Areas of Specialization, indicate how you gained each competency: through Training (T), Work Experience (W) or Other (O)  For competencies obtained through training, indicate the relevant course title and year completed in the evidence section below  For competencies obtained through work experience or other, briefly provide evidence for how you have demonstrated this competency. Section 10. Professional References

The applicant must submit two professional references in support of their application. At least one reference must be from a supervisor or employer. The second may be from a supervisor, employer or colleague who have knowledge of the Canadian Standards and Guidelines for Career Practitioners and can speak to and verify your capacity in the career development field. If self-employed, colleagues or client references may be acceptable.

Criteria for acceptance as a professional reference:

 The applicant must have known the reference for at least one year  The applicant must have known the reference in a professional capacity  The reference must have recent knowledge of the applicant’s work experience (within the past 5 years)  The reference must not be a family member  Ideally, the reference will be familiar with the Canadian Standards and Guidelines for Career Development Practitioners (for more information see www.career-dev-guidelines.org )

Section 11. Statement of Understanding

I certify that all information provided in this Recertification Application is accurate and complete to the best of my knowledge. I understand that providing false information will result in immediate revocation of my credential. I understand that the BC Career Development Association (BCCDA) has the right to confirm or validate any information submitted as part of the application.

I have read the Canadian Standards and Guidelines Code of Ethics and agree to abide by these standards while providing career development services.

If I am granted this recertification by the BC Career Development Association (BCCDA), I may advertise said credential (CCDP) to promote my work, but this by no means holds the BCCDA liable for my work. I hereby release the BCCDA from any and all liability and/or claim that may arise from my work.

I understand my credential may be revoked if I:  am proven to have breached the Code of Ethics of my professional association and those of the BCCDA  am convicted of a criminal offence  am proven to have performed actions or inactions that cause or can be seen to cause harm to the profession  provide false or misleading information  fail to maintain an up-to-date individual membership in BCCDA.
