This Is What S Happening In

Week of September 24 th Newsletter

This is what’s happening in:

Literacy - Daily Five/CAFE: Daily Five went very smoothly. The students enjoy it as much as I do. We concentrated on I PICK-choosing books that are just right. We practiced this and I started with a Power Point slide titled “ If the Book Fits, Read It!” . Phonics & Handwriting – We concentrated on the short I sound along with doing some connected activities and practiced reading the short O poem Kitten Mittens.

Math - We do the Problem of the Day to start every day. This week we worked on counting on to add and using a number line. We learned we should start with the largest number when we use the number line to add.

Writer’s Workshop – We reviewed what Writer’s Workshop looks like and sounds. The students also spent some time using writing lines correctly. Some of the students had the opportunity to share their writing. This will be something we do every day at the end of WW. The students wrote about Fall and they will be displayed in the hall.

Words Their Way- I have sent home Words Their Way sorts that your child needs to practice at home. I still need to meet with 2 more groups to give their new sorts to. You will see these Monday or Tuesday. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Social Studies- The students did an awesome job on their collages. They were very excited to share them with their friends.

Reminder for next week’s sharing: Find a leaf, mount it on white paper, and label it. Tell us where you found it. I sent home a piece of paper for you to use.

I will add a wish list to my newsletters but please don’t feel like you have to buy something. I have had a couple of parents ask me to include my wish list. Wish List: Books (used or new) The Important Book by Margaret Wise and I Feel a Foot by Maranke Rinck Gel Pens for the kiddos to write with during Work on Writing Games: Bananagrams, I Spy Eagle Eye, 20Q.. I can read your mind, and Scrabble Alphabet Soup, Math Games( you can find any of these at Target, Walmart, or Amazon)

Please remember to bring snack for the week on Monday of each week.

BOOK ORDERS ARE DUE FRIDAY OCT 5th.
