Using Remote Access

Using Remote Access

Start at the district web site and click on “Staff Links”

Look for the icon labeled “Remote Access” and click on it.

When you do that, this screen will open. Make sure you have “Open with” checked (this is important) and click on “OK”

Your computer may take a few seconds/minutes to load the program.

Note: Depending on your home setup for your computer, you may encounter various security setting pop up windows. You should acknowledge and accept any warnings that come up so you can continue. This is the next screen that will open. Click on the button labeled “Connect”

Again, depending on the age of your computer and your internet connection, this may take a few seconds/minutes to connect.

Once connected, you should see a screen like this, requesting your user name and password.

Your user name is: mmsd\bxxxxxx (your own b number) Your password is: Your Novell password

Note: Notice that the back slash (\) is important. It is the back slash that is located above the “Enter” key on a typical computer keyboard. Using the forward slash (/) will result in an inability to connect.

Again, give you computer some time to connect. You will then be prompted for a second login.

Here is the second login screen. The login is the same as the previous screen.

Your user name is: mmsd\bxxxxxx (your own b number) Your password is: Your Novell password

Click on “Connect”

Note: Notice that the back slash (\) is important. It is the back slash that is located above the “Enter” key on a typical computer keyboard. Using the forward slash (/) will result in an inability to connect. A desktop like this should open. Internet Explorer may also be open. You can choose to leave it open or close it. (I have closed it here for illustrative purposes). The programs that are available to you are represented as icons on the desktop. These are the only programs available to you at this time.

There are controls at the top of the screen (that are unable to be pictured here) that will allow you to minimize or maximize this screen so that you may access other programs on your home computer if you wish.

Exiting

When you are ready to exit, click on the “Start” menu in the lower left corner. When you do, the following box will pop up.

Look for the small arrow at the bottom next to the padlock icon. Click on it and a box will open giving you the option to log off.

Please make sure you log off in this fashion.

Printing

Printing is not available from this remote connection. Any attempts at printing may result in complications on your home computer, so printing should not be attempted.
