Maverick Spirit Team Constitution

I. PURPOSE It is the purpose of the Northern Oklahoma College cheer team to: A. Promote and uphold school spirit. B. Represent NOC to the highest degree. C. Set an example of good behavior at all times (whether in uniform or not) in class, at games and at all campus functions, whether performing or not. D. Promote friendship between all levels of the cheer team as well as the other athletes. E. Promote friendship with schools with whom we compete, perform, and go to camp.

II. REQUIREMENTS A. NOC Cheer Team must take priority over all other extra-curricular activities, including and especially jobs from August to May. Since scholarships are involved, this should be thought of as a job and not just an extra-curricular activity. B. All competitions, fund raisers, and summer activities are required.. C. For each semester, members must maintain appropriate grades and credits as outlined by the NOC guidelines as follows:  Maintain a GPA of 2.0 per semester  Enroll and pass a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester.  Maintain good standing with NOC, both financially and scholastically.  Live on campus unless living with parents / guardians.  Adhere to all policies stated in the student handbook.  Study Hall Hours will be assigned.

D. Members must maintain good class attendance during their time on the team. Attendance will be monitored by the coach who will make periodic checks with professors regarding member attendance.

1 | P a g e E. Conduct and Attitude: You are expected to display proper conduct, a cooperative attitude, good sportsmanship and behavior worthy of a representative of Northern Oklahoma College. F. Each member will carry out assigned duties each week. The weekly duties might consist of painting signs, planning half time routines, ect. G. Attire and Uniforms  All uniforms must be professionally dry cleaned and returned in separate bags at the end of the season. Each cheerleader is responsible for the cost of the cleaning. A date will be assigned for returning the uniforms. You are responsible for the damage of any uniform, which means you will pay for the replacement of that uniform. If the uniform is not returned by the designated date, the cheerleader’s grades may be put on HOLD.  In the case of early dismissal from the team, that cheerleader will be given 7 days from the date of dismissal to return ALL uniforms and cheerleading gear. If this requirement is not met, that cheerleaders name will be turned in to the Athletic Director to have a HOLD placed on his/her grades.  Each cheerleader will purchase shoes, socks, spankies, tights, and workout gear. Practice gear is to be worn to ALL practices.  Each cheerleader will be responsible to pay for the altering of uniforms.  All cheerleaders are expected to dress alike for all events, games, activities, and at school on game days. Pompons are part of your uniforms. H. Being on the NOC cheer team one year IN NO WAY GUARANTEES PLACEMENT ON THE SQUAD FOR THE FOLLOWING YEAR. Every member must go through the same selection / tryout process each spring. In addition to ability, each member’s cooperation, effort, attitude with other team members from the previous year will be considered. The outcome of the tryout is FINAL. I. All members are expected to take part in fundraisers (including summer car washes, selling raffle tickets at games, etc.) J. If a member is ill the day of any event (this includes practices), he/she should notify the coach prior to the starting of the practice or game. If he/she becomes ill at the event, the sponsor will take appropriate action. Failure to notify the coach will result in immediate dismissal from the team. K. If a cheerleader resigns from the squad before the end of the year, he/she will not be allowed to try out the following year.

2 | P a g e L. Each member of the team is responsible to stay fit throughout the year. If a member is unable to fit in his/her uniforms, they will be responsible to have it altered.

III. CODE OF CONDUCT As a cheer team member, you are expected to participate in all assigned games and practices, wear proper uniforms, and conduct yourself in a manner which reflects positively on Northern Oklahoma College.

A. Disciplinary action, including but not limited to extra conditioning, individual or team morning workouts, make up practices, suspended from a game, suspended from the team, and love of or prorating of scholarship. These actions can and will be taken for the following code of conduct violations and / or other regulatory misconduct:  Being tardy (unexcused) to games or practices. Reasonable tardy excuses include illness or family emergency.  Arriving at a scheduled game after the game has already started.  Uncooperative behavior during either a game or practice, such as talking, chewing gum, being out of position, wearing jewelry, hair not up, lack of spirit or enthusiasm, or not going “full-out” as requested.  Missing a game or practice without an excuse. a. All excused absences must be documented by some sort of note (doctor’s note, parent’s note, professor’s note, etc.).  Breaking any rules and regulations listed in the student handbook.  Being disciplined by any member of the NOC faculty or administrative staff, including but not limited to professors, Deans, or dorm parents.

I have read the Northern Oklahoma College, Maverick Spirit Team Constitution and fully understand, accept, and agree to be bound by it.

I agree to follow the regulations and adhere to the Code of Conduct as it is stated in the Maverick Spirit Team Constitution.

I understand the possible consequences of my actions if I choose to not follow the above stated regulations and Code of Conduct.
