Hello Everyone s1

Hello everyone,

Before I make a case for my bid to be your Treasurer, let me say thank you for caring enough to read this! Your desire for involvement is encouraging.

When I started at UMES three semesters ago, I fell into what seems like one of the most prevalent habits on this campus, chronic complaining. Looking back, I probably had some good reasons for my complaints, but I also had many reasons to praise this place. I simply didn’t want to see them at the time. Once I realized just how many wonderful things this university has done for me, something else hit me hard. It’s okay to complain! Complaints drive improvement. What isn’t okay is complaining about things that you are not willing to put the effort into fixing. That is why I am running for Treasurer. I want to gain the authority to help fix some of those things I that I have spent so much time complaining about.

Now that you know my motivations, here are a few things that I think make me qualified for the office: My major is Chemistry, which means that I pretty much eat, sleep, and breathe math. I have lots of experience handling money. I have been paying my own bills and balancing my own check book since the age of 15 and been self-employed for the past 9 years. I am also an active member of both on and off campus organizations, including MANNRS, UMES Chemistry Club, American Chemical Society, and previously the Crisfield Cat Shelter. My work with the shelter also gave me some experience in fundraising, dealing with government officials, and navigating the ins and outs of 5013 C IRS non-profit status. In summation, my intentions are good, I know who to go to in order to get things done, and I am adept at handling money.

I look forward to serving you,

Heather Goldsborough
