Recommendations for Continued Growth:

Put an X in the left-hand column to indicate that the program meets or exceeds the requirement for certification.  If it is not applicable (for example, a level they are not applying for), mark with a N/A.

 If the program does NOT meet requirement, mark with a “NO” and note under “Concerns” above.

 If the program EXCEEDS the minimum requirements, make a note in the “Strengths” section above.

Narrative: Program is able to explain how it complies with copyright requirements. Sample training materials included demonstrate a respect for copyright. All attachments or materials appear to have permission for use, or are otherwise explained per copyright. Tutor reporting lines are explained. It is clear who tutors report to, and who is in charge of their hiring, training, and evaluation.

Tutor Selection Criteria: Employment process includes an interview with tutor supervisor. Written support/recommendation required as part of hiring process. Support is accepted from (select): Faculty/Instructor - Dept Chair - Supervisor Program collects documentation of A or B grade in subject to be tutored OR equivalent experience. If equivalent experience is accepted by this program, application outlines what the program considers appropriate equivalent experience.

Methods, Modes, and Materials: Training is facilitated primarily by tutor supervisor. CRLA ITTPC Reviewer Checklist

If guest facilitators are used, the program explains how continuity and outcomes are managed. Frequency and length of training, group sizes and training method seem to be based on sound pedagogy and learning practices. At least the minimum CRLA-approved topics are selected at each level. (Level 1: 8, Level 2: 4, Level 3: 4) If “Other” or “Substitution” is selected as a topic, the program adequately justifies this selection. TILR activities used by this program include: (Must select at least 1) Conferences with a tutor trainer or supervisor Live, real-time, face-to-face Live, real-time, online Seminar Workshop Non-TILR activities used by this program include: DVDs, CDs, Slideshows Handouts Online materials (YouTube, Prezi, etc) Questionnaires Textbooks Webquests, podcasts, webcasts, wikis, blogs Workbooks Special tutor projects which highlight pedagogy or training standards. Other(s): Training sign-in or attendance sheet lists dates, times, and topics covered. It is clear how the program tracks how each tutor meets the training requirements (hours and topics) at each level.

Standards, Outcomes and Assessments: Stated standards match CRLA standards. Outcomes align to standards well. Sample materials included demonstrate clear and attainable outcomes. Measurement/assessment is present and aligns to stated outcomes. CRLA ITTPC Reviewer Checklist

Tutoring Experience: Program clearly articulates how actual tutoring experience is tracked. Program clearly assesses that the minimum tutoring experience is gained at each level by each tutor. Program offers tutoring as (select at least one): Individual and/or concurrent small group sessions. Walk-in, drop-in, “homework help” style. Program adequately tracks experience hours based on the type of tutoring they offer. Program sample reports delineate hours spent on administrative tasks or center-staffing as separate from the 25 hours of required tutoring experience. If program has an SI program as well as tutoring, program shows how it keeps Supplemental Instruction experience and training separate from tutor training and tutoring experience.

Evaluation: Evaluation procedure occurs regularly. Select: Every quarter / semester / year Evaluation process and its results are known to the tutor. Evaluation is conducted in part by tutor supervisor, based on observation. Evaluative measures reflect or assess training competences or pedagogical growth.

Summary Chart: A minimum of 10 hours of training time is reflected in materials and summary chart for each level. Program meets minimum requirement for Tutor-Trainer-Supervised, Interactive, Live, and Real-Time (TILR) activities at each level: Level 1: 6 hours Level 2: 4 hours Level 3: 2 hours Breaks and/or lunches are not counted toward total training time. In general, curriculum supports tutor growth; the majority of training time focuses on improving tutoring outcomes (not simply administrative tasks). CRLA ITTPC Reviewer Checklist

The amount of time spent on each topic makes sense. For levels 2 and 3, review of previous topics is substantively different from the modes and methods used at level 1. Tutors do not simply re-attend level 1 sessions. Application demonstrates how program tracks tutor completion of training requirements (topics, hours, TILR) for each tutor.
