Important Deadlines:

 Last day to withdraw (no refund) – March 29th  Holidays (no classes or office hours) – January 21th (Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday), March 18th-March 22st (Spring Break)  Exam 1: February. 18th , 2013 (Monday)  Exam 2: April. 03, 2013 (Wednesday)  Final Exam is Wednesday, April 24, 9:00-10:50am. Attendance: is required; parts of this class may be in a cooperative learning format. You will be assigned group work in and out of class. Repeated absences (more than 4 unexcused) will result in lowering your grade in the course. Students absent for university sponsored events or must make arrangements for making up the work they will miss before they are absent.

Homework: is required. Selected problems from your textbook will be assigned and graded. All homework 8 1 11 must be written on 2 paper. Write on one side of the paper. Staple the pages in the upper left corner.

Quizzes: Quizzes may be either announced or unannounced, and are given at the discretion of the instructor. Quizzes frequently reflect material that has recently been discussed in the class. NO MAKE- UP QUIZZES unless in case of sickness or accident - medical certificate required.

Exams: Two semester exams will be given. The best possible preparation for the exams is regular attendance and completion of suggested homework problems.

Final Exam: The final exam is comprehensive and will be administered in class during the last class day and time.

Makeup Exams: Will be given at the discretion of the instructor and only in the case of verified medical or other emergency. The instructor must be notified before the exam is given.

Calculators: A graphing calculator is useful. A TI–83 or a TI-86 is recommended. TI-89s and TI-92s cannot be used in class or during exams.

Course Content: Systems of linear equations, matrices, vector spaces, linear transformations, eigenvalues and eigenvectors.

Course Outline: Chapter 1 – Matrices, Vectors, and Systems of Linear Equations Chapter 2 – Matrices and Linear Transformations Chapter 3 – Determinants Chapter 4 – Subspaces and Their Properties Chapter 5 – Eigenvalues, Eigenvectors, and Diagonalization Chapter 6 – Orthogonality Chapter 7 – Vector Spaces (time permitting)
