Authors Visit June 6th- Gretchen McLellan will return to Hathaway for a K-2 author visit. Mrs. McLellan worked at Hathaway for many years as a Reading Title I Teacher. She currently has 5 books either published or in the process. This visit will center around her first book, Mrs. McBee Leaves Room 3. Mrs. McLellan is a wonderful teacher with the ability to tune in to each child in her audience. Her sessions are highly interactive and include hands-on materials, some of which she makes herself. It is very important to Mrs. McLellan that children not only enjoy literature, but also understand and learn to appreciate the deeper meaning in each story. This author visit is made possible through a grant from the Washougal Schools Foundation. Through the grant we are also able to purchase 4 books for our school library.

CAFETERIA UPDATE Money remaining on student accounts will roll over to next year (even if your student will be going to middle school). In the fall you will need to fill out a new application if your child qualified for free or reduced meals this year. Negative meal account balances must be paid by June 17th.

FREE SUMMER MEALS will be served at Hathaway Elementary this summer on Mondays-Thursday (NO Friday Service) starting July 10th through August 3rd. Breakfast will be available at 8:25-8:40 AM and lunch from 12:00-12:30. All students in the Washougal School District are eligible regardless of meal status. This program is sponsored by a grant from the United States Department of Agriculture.

MEDICATIONS AT SCHOOL If your child has medicine at school (of any kind, including Epi-pens, inhalers and over-the-counter medicines), these must be picked up by June 23rd at 4:00pm. Medications left after the end of the school year will be discarded.

SUMMER SCHOOL Letters have been sent to families of children who have been invited to participate. If your child received an invitation for the Hathaway Summer Program, please be sure to respond to your child’s teacher right away so the slot can be reserved for him/her.

LIBRARY NEWS If you receive an overdue notice and the book has not been found or money received by the last week of school, the child’s report card will not be sent home. Payments and books can be returned this summer at the district office to Boo Stevens. Please look for any library books and return to Hathaway or to District Office. Donations are always welcome! Remember to READ, SUCCEED and LEAD this summer.
