NEWHOPE MINISTRIES TRUST Annual Report for the year to 31 March 2017

NewHope Ministries Trust is registered with the Charities Commission (No 1070796) and constituted by Deed of Trust.

The charity, whose objects are below, is administered by the Trustees, namely; Mr John Sloan Dr Myra Sloan Dr Clive Pleasance Mr Jon Francis Mr James Sloan

Our patron is Mr Michael Flowers, MBE, FRCS. The Trustees Have added Mr James Sloan as a Trustee

The objects of the charity are 1. To advance the Christian faith in such parts of the United Kingdom or the world as the Trustees may from time to time think fit. 2. To relieve persons who are in conditions of need or hardship or who are aged or sick and to relieve the distress caused thereby in such other parts of the United Kingdom or the world as the Trustees may from time to time think fit 3. To promote and fulfil such other charitable purposes beneficial to the community in parts of the United Kingdom or the world as the Trustees may from time to time think fit.

The website, www.newhope.co.uk is regularly updated to give information about the overseas work and current projects. The charity receives and passes on donations for the support of a Christian worker in Jordan and an aid worker serving in Asia. We make occasional donations to other workers, notably a pastor in Pakistan.

Voluntary help The Trustees and any other helper work without remuneration 1 Risk management The Trustees keep the Trust’s management under review, particularly with regard to fraud overseas.

Overview The work overseas has been primarily developing a clinic in the Democratic Republic of Congo. We are helping to fund a building, staff, a computer based medical records system and a solar powered electricity supply.

As before, we maintain our work in Uganda and the Philippines, but we have asked both to produce a 3 year plan for self-sustainability.

A team visited Uganda in March 2017, hoping also to visit the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The latter was not possible due to visa problems, but we achieved most of our objectives from the Uganda/DRC border.

In June, we also visited the Philippines, and were able to talk about future plans. Besides this, we were able to be present at Dr Don Double’s graduation ceremony.

Financial summary Monies are held and administered through 3 bank accounts and reported as one in the annex to this report. The income for the overseas work is in part from regular monthly gifts and in part from generous individual donations, often following an update on the work, plus proceeds from a charitable event. Expenditure covers the cost of overseas trips, regular support of the clinics, including fees to enable a dentist in the Philippines to complete his studies, and the meeting of specific needs.

In the Khoury accounts, there has been a small rise, following a request for specific help.

Signed by John Sloan, Chair of Trustees, 12th October 2017
