One of them is not Catholic, but would like to share in our Faith and become Catholic. Is this you? 2. Do you know of an adult or are you that adult who would like to take the first step to become a Christian Catholic, but you are not quite sure how to find out more? 3. Are you a baptised Christian and now want to share in the other Sacraments of our Faith? 4. You may be a baptised Catholic, but over the years, have drifted from the church. You may now have a desire (that little voice that speaks to us in our hearts) urging you to return and be refreshed. 5. Your friend may be a Catholic and you admire him/her for what their Faith means to them. You often think, I would like to be like him/her. If so, do something about it. It is never too late. Whichever of these or a similar situation, you need to contact us soon. Call Father Jim on 01875 610232, speak to a member of the RCIA, or e-mail Father Jim at [email protected] before 31st August 2017.

NATIONAL GALLERIES OF SCOTLAND, MOUND, EDINBURGH – CARAVAGGIO EXHIBITION – A LIFE SACRED AND PROFANE Beyond Caravaggio -on now until 24th September 2017 - £12 (concession: £10) Free for Our Friends. Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio (1571 – 1610) was a radical and revolutionary artist whose work had a transformative impact on art in Italy and beyond during his lifetime and in the decades following his premature death. Brilliant, challenging, argumentative and violent, our image of his work is inseparable from his tumultuous personal life, which combined support from several of the most discriminating patrons of the day, with repeated appearances in the Roman law courts. In 1606 he murdered a man after a quarrel over a game of tennis and spent the last four years of his life as a fugitive, although he also produced his most profound and moving works during this time. This is the first exhibition of works by Caravaggio and his followers – the so-called Caravaggesque painters – ever to be shown in Scotland. Caravaggio’s dramatic lighting and compositions, and his radically new approach to subject matter exerted a huge influence on a host of contemporary artists from all over Europe, many of them painters of the very highest calibre, such as Gentileschi, Ribera, Valentin and Ter Brugghen. This exhibition is a collaboration between the National Gallery, London, the National Gallery of Ireland and the National Galleries of Scotland. Part of the Edinburgh Art Festival 2017.

Reflection A Celtic Prayer I rise today with God’s strength to direct me,

God’s wisdom to guide me,

God’s eyes to look before me,

God’s ear to hear me,

God’s word to speak for me,

God’s hand to uphold me,

God’s pathway before me,

God’s shield to protect me,

God’s host to save me – from temptations, from one man or many that seek to destroy me. Amen

Joke of the week

The six year old girl and her four year old brother were sitting together at Mass. The boy couldn’t keep quiet. He giggled, sang and talked out loud.

Finally, his big sister had had enough. “You’re not supposed to talk at Mass.”

“Why?” Who’s going to stop me?” the boy asked.

She pointed to the back of the Church and said, “See those men standing by the door?” They’re hushers.”
