August 17, 2017 CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
ELECTRICAL WORK FOR SOUTHWEST CALGARY RING ROAD
ENMAX Power Corporation is continuing work on a complex multi-year project to relocate electrical utilities to accommodate the Southwest Calgary Ring Road (SWCRR) project. This construction update letter is for residents who live near the section of the project between 90 Avenue SW and Anderson Road SW.
OVERHEAD DISTRIBTUION AND TRANSMISSION SALVAGE ENMAX crews will begin removing the existing overhead distribution line on the west side of the off leash dog park during the week of August 25, 2017. The work is anticipated to take five weeks to complete. Park users are asked to use caution where crews are working on removing the overhead line and its electrical components.
The existing 138 kV overhead transmission line (south and north of ENMAX No. 35 Substation) will be salvaged beginning in September 2017. Construction on the new 138 kV transmission line further west in the Transportation Utility Corridor is currently underway. The transmission work is anticipated to be complete by March 2018.
ENMAX NO. 35 SUBSTATION Work is continuing inside the substation to prepare for connecting and energizing the two relocated 138 kV transmission lines by the end of this year.
Once the substation is fully operational workers will be accessing the substation several times per month.
UNDERGROUND DISTRIBUTION The duct bank and electrical cable installation from ENMAX No. 35 Substation to Anderson Road SW is complete. Workers will be accessing the new underground duct bank by vehicle approximately once per month for ongoing regular maintenance and inspection. Occasionally water may be required to be pumped out of a manhole for safe access.
The duct bank crossing at Anderson Road west of the new pedestrian bridge is currently under construction and will be complete in October 2017. In March 2017, underground electrical equipment flooded near Oakridge Estates causing a power outage to some of the residents in the area. To mitigate future flooding and power outages, a drainage swale was built near the electrical equipment and an alternative power source was installed.
