Settlement Role and Function Study Goudhurst, Kilndown and Curtisden Green: List of Green Spaces

The following are prime examples of Green Spaces valued by the residents of Goudhurst Parish. However please note that the Parish is extremely fortunate in being blessed with both rural and urban settings and views as well as ancient woodlands.

There is an extensive network of Public Rights of Way throughout the Parish.

These are not in any particular order.

Goudhurst:

1. Upper Glebe Field (holds Village Green status) to the east of St Mary’s Church. 2. Lower Glebe Field to the south-east St Mary’s Church. 3. Children’s play ground, Back Lane. 4. Chequer Field, off Beaman Close adjacent to Goudhurst & Kilndown CE Primary School used as the Parish Football Field with limited public access.. 5. The Peacock Inn at Iden Green in Goudhurst Parish: a small parcel of land (holds Village Green status) at the junction of A262 and Glassenbury Road 6. The Plain and Pond (holds Village Green status) in central Goudhurst at the junction of A262 and B2079 Balcombes Hill. 7. Goudhurst War Memorial. 8. Recreation Area adjacent to Lurkins Rise and Culpepers. 9. Goudhurst Tennis Club at Brandfold, North Road. 10. St Mary’s Churchyard, the cemetery to the south of Back Lane and the current Burial Grounds. 11. The disused railway line through Goudhurst from Paddock Wood to Hawkhurst: the ‘Hop Pickers Line’

Curtisden Green:

1 12. Bethany School, the Firs playing field central to the hamlet of Curtisden Green. 13. Other assorted playing fields to the south and south west of Bethany School. 14. Small parcel of land composing a triangle in the highway outside Curfew Cottage and The Farmhouse. 15. Park Wood north of A262 to Curtisden Green, Horden and Round Green.

Kilndown:

16. Millennium Green, Church Road. 17. Christ Church and Churchyard with War Memorial. 18. Quarry Pond and surrounding land. 19. Cricket Ground in Rogers Rough Road. 20. Rogers Rough Road between Kilndown and Priors Heath there is a nature reserve adjacent to the highway. 21. Bedgebury Forest including the Pinetum and the adjacent walled garden. 22. Land west of Kilndown Village towards Scotney (National Trust).
