WILKERSON FOR HER 13 EFFORTS IN SUPPORTING LITERACY AND LEARNING 14 THROUGH THE TORI R.E.A.D.S MAGIC OF LEARNING 15 INITIATIVE. 16 17 Whereas, the mission of the Tori R.E.A.D.S Magic of Learning 18 Initiative is to educate today’s youth while encouraging them to 19 participate in the magic of learning. The initiative seeks to provide 20 fun educational activities to engage the child and make the 21 learning process enjoyable; and 22 23 Whereas, the Tori R.E.A.D.S Initiative involves products and 24 experiences that focus on the entire child, including four books, 25 Tori Explores South Carolina, Tori Finds Shapes All Around, Tori 26 Finds Colors All Around, and Tori Visits the Farm: Counting 1-10; 27 a Tori plush doll; and Tori colors and letters flash cards; and 28 29 Whereas, the Tori R.E.A.D.S Initiative is used in classrooms 30 across the State, in over half of the United States, and abroad; and 31 32 Whereas, the City of Columbia, in conjunction with Richland 33 School District One, adopted the Tori R.E.A.D.S Initiative for the 34 third annual Together We Can Read Day Initiative; and 35 36 Whereas, the City of Columbia City Council recognized the 37 initiative with Ashlye V. & Tori Day; and 38 39 Whereas, the Tori R.E.A.D.S Initiative was selected by Governor 40 Haley and the Original Six Foundation for their Annual Reading 41 Initiative; and 42

[685] 2 1 Whereas, the Tori R.E.A.D.S Initiative was implemented in the 2 Early Childhood Curriculum and the Family Book Club in 3 Richland School District One; and 4 5 Whereas, Ashlye V. Wilkerson is the founder of The Magic of 6 Learning Foundation and has spearheaded the Tori R.E.A.D.S 7 Initiative by authoring the Tori books. Her motto involves “helping 8 our future, one child at a time”; and 9 10 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are grateful 11 for the enduring commitment that Ashlye V. Wilkerson has shown 12 in serving the State and the people of South Carolina. Now, 13 therefore, 14 15 Be it resolved by the Senate: 16 17 That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, 18 recognize May 3, 2017 as “Ten Years of Tori Day” and honor 19 Ashlye V. Wilkerson for her efforts in supporting literacy and 20 learning through the Tori R.E.A.D.S Magic of Learning Initiative. 21 22 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to 23 Ashlye V.
