Overview of this Unit: In this unit children will Save, Retrieve, Edit and Re-save work independently, understanding the importance of saving work regularly and can navigate to folders to use shared resources. They will develop Desktop Publishing skills using different editing tools to highlight, edit, justify text and insert images to enhance their documents and evaluate and refine their work. Children will use Copy and Paste techniques to improve text and develop their work and can plan and create Electronic books by linking pages together.

They will understand the importance of entering correct e-mail addresses and can create and respond to e-mails and include attachments. The pupils will understand that different file types can be used as attachments, such as pictures and documents and know how to remain safe online.

Expectations at the end of this unit: Most pupils will be able to: Save, Retrieve, Edit and Re-save work independently. They can use features of a Desktop Publishing package to plan, refine and edit their work and use Copy and Paste techniques to enhance their work. They can plan a simple E-book and link pages together. They know the importance of correct e-mail addresses and can create and respond to e-mails including attachments and know how to remain safe online.

Some pupils will only be able to. Save, Retrieve, Edit and Re-save work with assistance. They will be able to use some features of a Desktop Publishing package to edit their work using basic editing tools. They may need support and encouragement to Copy and Paste resources into their work and help to link pages together. They know the importance of correct e-mail addresses and can create and respond to e-mails with assistance. They can talk about how to remain safe online.

Some pupils will also be able to: Save, Retrieve, Edit and Re-save work independently and navigate with ease to central resources to include a range of file types in their work. They will be able to use a broad range of editing tools in a Desktop Publishing package to refine and edit their work and demonstrate confidence to move or rearrange text and insert images using Copy and Paste techniques as they plan, evaluate and edit their work. They know the importance of correct e-mail addresses and can create and respond to e-mails containing attachments in different file formats. They will know how to remain safe online.
