Class 2/3 Looking Forward Sheet.

English: In English we will be reading and writing folk tales and fables, looking at calligrams and shape poems, writing reports and diaries. Where possible our English work will be linked to topics from other areas of the Curriculum. Homework: Homework will be sent home fortnightly and may include spelling, grammar or writing activities. Year 2’s need to make a diary entry once a week and everyone will be expected to read at home and change their reading books at least once and no more than twice a week. Maths: To begin our numeracy programme for the year we shall be learning about: Basic number skills of addition and subtraction, measurement (including positional language), time, 2D and 3D Shapes, money and change. Learning of Times Tables is very important and Year 2’s need to learn their 2, 5 and 10 times tables, while Year 3’s need to be confident with these and their 3’s and 4’s by the end of the Autumn term. Homework : This will be set fortnightly and Year 3’s will usually complete their homework online using MyMaths. Other areas of the Curriculum:

Ancient Egypt is our history topic for the term and we will try to link as many areas of the curriculum to this as possible. We will begin to investigate what we can discover about ancient Egypt from what has survived from the past. The children will research using the internet, factual books and through literature. We will locate Egypt on a map and globe and research the climate and importance of the River Nile. The children will be using ICT to use a word processing package, alter text size and font and edit their own work. They will also learn about e-safety and keeping safe online. The children will study hieroglyphs and will create their own art work, inspired by Egyptian wall paintings. They will read the story of Joseph and his Coat of Many Colours and design and make their own coats for him. In Science we will look at animals, including humans, exploring the function of the skeleton and ways in which we can keep our bodies healthy. We will also look at man-made and natural materials and evaluate which materials are best suited for particular uses. In RE the children will read stories from the Bible about people called by God, Joseph and his coat of many colours and after half term we will begin preparations for Christmas. In music we will be learning the recorder and the children will need to have a recorder in school. PE lessons will be on a Tuesday and Friday this term so please ensure PE kits are in school on these days and earrings are taken out.
