Important Stipulations: 1. Regarding General Education: (a) Any course used to fill GE Segment I requirements cannot be counted toward the COMM major; (b) ENG 214 (or equivalent) is a pre-requisite for all breadth area courses in the COMM major, including GWAR courses. 2. Becoming a COMM major: (a) You must have a 2.0 or better GPA at SFSU and a “B” or better in COMM 150 (or equivalent) and ENG 214 (or equivalent) to declare the COMM major; (b) We accept change of major requests once a year, October 1st through November 30th, for consideration for admission to the program in Fall of the following year. Notification of admission will occur in late May. 3. Regarding the Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR): (a) You must complete the GWAR requirement within your first 8 upper-division units as a COMM major; (b) Once you have completed any GWAR course with a “C or better,” enrollment in any other GWAR course in the major is prohibited, nor can you enroll in the non-GWAR version of the course in which you met the requirement. 4. With your assigned academic adviser’s written approval: a. You may count up to 08 units of lower division transfer COMM units as electives in the major; b. COMM 685 and/or COMM 695 can be counted once each in the major. A maximum of eight units from any combination of COMM 685, 695, 699 may be counted toward the major’s electives.
