INCIDENT: Hurricane Jeanne STATEMENT NUMBER: 022 DATE: Oct. 1, 2004 TIME: 1:30 p.m. Contact information: Kevin A. Lenhart Christopher Patton Building Services to remain open Saturday morning Citizens with residential power service damage encouraged to call Building Services for permit

TAVARES  As crews restore power to Lake County residents, some homeowners are realizing damage to their service entrance. Power company crews cannot make repairs to a weather head, riser or meter can attached to a home, as they do not own the property. These parts of the service entrance can become damaged from downed trees and various other storm debris. When power is restored to a neighborhood, power crews will not turn on service to homes with this type of damage. Electrical services can be repaired by a licensed Florida electrical contractor without a permit. The contractor will notify the power company that the service is repaired and safe. The homeowner can repair the service, but first must obtain a no-fee permit for the storm-damage repair. A Lake County building inspector must inspect the service repair. The Building Services Division can be reached at (352) 343-9653. The Building Services in Tavares and Clermont will remain open Saturday, Oct. 2, from 8 a.m. to noon. A resident must have repairs inspected by an inspector, as improper hook ups can be fatal. Progress Energy customers can call (888) 999-8856 to locate an available electrical contractor.
