Washington The National Conference of Puerto Rican Women, DC Metro Chapter is honored to offer the Carmen Delgado-Votaw scholarship to a Puerto Rican or Latina women (native or descent) from the Washington, DC, Virginia or Maryland (DC Metro area) who plan to attend a 4-year college or community In order to qualify, students must have a 2.75+ cumulative GPA. college in the Fall of 2017.

The award will be $1000. The scholarship will be awarded in late June 2017, at a local ceremony details to be determined. Scholarship recipient must be able to attend this ceremony in order to receive the scholarship. The scholarship award will be withdrawn if the student cannot or does not end up attending the ceremony.

To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria and submit ALL materials by June 2, 2017.

The recipient will be selected from applicants who meet the following criteria:

 Puerto Rican or Latina female, by birth or descent.  Accepted to an accredited 4-year university or community college by Fall 2017.  Cumulative high school GPA of 2.75+ (school transcript needs to be provided). Students must complete the application form and submit it with the following materials:

 Proof of acceptance in a 4-year university or community college.

 500 word essay answering one of the following:

a) Talk about your favorite Latino/Puerto Rican role model or mentor. What inspires you about them?

b) What career path do you foresee for yourself and how do you plan to positively affect your community through that career path? c) As a Puerto Rican born in the USA, how do you feel your college studies and future career can benefit Puerto Ricans in the US or in the Island?
