February 9, 2016 – WEO Activity Report

Town of Washington INLAND WETLANDS COMMISSION WASHINGTON DEPOT, CT. 06794

To: Inland Wetlands Commission From: Michael E. Ajello, WEO Subject: WEO Activity Report, February 9, 2016

A summary of wetland related activities follows:

 Amed – 210 New Milford Turnpike – Reconstruct Dwelling – This job was started immediately after our last meeting. Erosion barriers were installed per plan and masonry repairs were completed in moderate weather. The first floor deck has been completed and the walls are being erected. Roof trusses are on site and the building should be enclosed quickly. Ground surfaces are lightly frozen and the rainfall of 2/3 had little effect.  Baratta – 236 Nettleton Hollow Rd. – Reconstruct and repair barn site for use as recreational building – This barn and grounds have been improved with remodeling, Fireplace and chimney, generator, AC and underground LP storage. In addition fencing and an entry gate were installed and plantings were installed. No work extended near the watercourses and all areas are stabilized. I am closing the IW file at this time.  Berne – 164 West Shore Rd. – Build Garage w/dwelling above – Framing has been completed and runoff from the site controlled at the driveway. Soil stockpiles have been reduced and contractors are attending to daily erosion control maintenance issues.  Bernstein – 69 West Shore Rd. – New septic, Demolish & rebuild house & garage. Framing of the structure is substantially complete. No sedimentation has occurred onto West Shore Rd. or into Lake Waramaug and the site remains well contained.  Carron – Gunn Hill Rd. – Demolish Sheds, Build Accessory Building – The (2) sheds were removed at the onset of this job. Very little disturbance occurred at those locations near the wetland boundary. At this time the new building is framed and roofed and that construction activity is consolidated to a previous lawn area, separated from the wetlands by a driveway and a substantial stone wall.  Edwards – 14 Church Hill Rd. – 2 story addition, porch enclosure – Photos of the stream corridor were forwarded to commissioners after discussion at our last meeting. Construction work has been completed; but I am leaving the IW file open so that vegetation and fencing can be enhanced this spring.  Mackesey – 233 West Shore Rd. – Demolish and reconstruct Garage and build Pool house, relocate pool and driveway, drainage improvements – I received notification of start on 1/25. A retaining wall and outdoor stairs to the North of the dwelling were removed to accommodate test boring. Disturbance was contained and isolated to that one area.  Shepaug Valley Properties – 27 Mt. Tom Rd. – Dredge Pond – Activity seems to have stopped on site and most construction equipment has been removed. The contractor explained to me that his intentions are to return in the spring to bury and grade over the pond spoils which are presently in a contained area for dewatering. The stony gravel soils in the work area remain intact and no sedimentation is anticipated on this site.  Stiles/Angiollo – 25 West Shore Rd. – Demolish and Re-place Dwelling – Framing of the dwelling is substantially complete. The site is well contained and remains in good condition with no noticeable erosion or sedimentation issues.  Strawman LLC – 35 Bee Brook Rd. – Temporary bridge and access way – The bridge and driveway bed remain in good stable condition and lead to a new dirt track which accesses the interior of the lot. Tree and brush work has occurred throughout the upper elevations of the site. After the .7 inch rainfall of 2/3/16 no erosion or sedimentation issues were apparent and the site seemed to dry out quickly. Numerous brush piles are present on site but no heavy equipment remains there.  Washington Park Foundation - #1 Green Hill Rd. – The LP storage tank was buried shortly after our last meeting. The town and state roads remain free of tracked mud and so drainage systems were not impacted during the rainfall of 2/3/16. February 9, 2016 – WEO Activity Report
