Top tips to prevent being a victim of crime:

As shown by the figures above, theft of and from vehicles have been very common recently so precautions should be taken at all times to help prevent your car being damaged, and the contents stolen. • ALWAYS Lock the doors, windows, sun roof and boot EVERY time you leave your vehicle.

• Do not leave any belongings in your vehicle, even in the glove box. Criminals will break into a vehicle on an opportunist basis, don’t tempt them!

• ALWAYS try to park in a well-lit busy open area or on a car park that is well supervised, has restricted entry and exit points, good lighting and other security features.

In this weekly crime report, businesses have also been targeted:

 Make sure you have CCTC installed covering as many windows and doors as possible, and make sure it is in working order.

 Use posters to advertise the fact that the CCTV records 24 hours a day

 Consider installing an alarm that is connected to a central monitoring station

 Consider motion activated lighting inside and outside the premise

 Make sure that the external perimeter of your premises is secure.

 Train staff to spot thieves and to watch out for suspicious behaviour

It has been very common recently that offenders have been using blunt objects to smash glass windows to enter into dwellings.

• Remove any heavy objects that could be used to smash glass such as loose bricks or large rocks.

• If you do not have CCTV fitted, you may wish to invest in some CCTV or fake CCTV cameras to deter possible offenders.

• Make sure you make your gardens as secure as possible, with high fences and locked gates.

• You could also invest in an anti-smash glass alarm to fit onto your windows and doors.

• Motion detected lights placed around your house could not only be useful for you, but can also help deter intruders as it makes them more visible.

• Do not leave valuables in view from the outside as this could attract possible thieves. To help protect your belongings, whether household or business, register your property for free at www.immobilise.com , this will mean that is your property is stolen; you have a higher chance of getting it back!
