(4) Tell me what cranky means. (Answer) Easily annoyed, irratable, bothersome. (Follow Up) What did Tabby have that was cranky?

(5) Name what was growing in Mr. Putter’s backyard. (Answer) Juicy apples, juicy tomatoes and juicy pears. (Follow Up) What was Mr. Putter’s favorite?

(6) Describe how Mr. Putter made the slingshot? (Answer) (Page 17) He cut up underwear and got some elastic, then he got an old glove and a stick. (Follow Up) Have you ever shot a sling shot?

1. Write a recipe for pear jelly. Include measurements and quantities.

2. Make a list of things you can make with the different fruits of fall. Name your favorite.

3. Make a list of other ways Mr. Putter could have harvested his pears.

4. Write a thank you note to Mrs. Teaberry for the apple feast.

Introduction

1. Bring in a picture of fall. Discuss the different fruits and vegetables that are harvested in the fall. Say, “Today we will read about Mr. Putter’s favorites.”

2. Make a slingshot like Mr. Putter’s. Show it to the children. Ask what can it be used for. Say, “Today we will read how Mr. Putter used his slingshot.”

3. Show pictures for a apple pie, hot apple cider, tomatoes, pears and jellies. Let the children pick their favorite. Say, “Today we will read about Mr. Putter’s favorites.”
