Town of Scituate – Historical Commission Meeting Minutes – November 17, 2016

1. Welcome and Call to Order Chairman Doug Smith called to order a regular meeting of the Scituate Historical Commission at 7:01 pm on November 17, 2016 at the Little Red School House.

The following members attended the meeting: Doug Smith, Arthur Beale, Stephen Litchfield, Mike Cuneo, and Karen Desler. Aubrey Burke had an excused absence.

2. Approval of Meeting Minutes The minutes of the Commission’s meeting of October 20, 2016 were approved.

3. Tercentenary Sign Update Arthur Beale provided a brief update on the tercentenary sign project, notably the re- installation of the Third Cliff sign. The re-installation of the sign was publicized in both the Mariner and the Ledger.

4. Demolition By-Law Discussions Mr. Jim Sandell and Mr. Peter Genta, architect and developer respectively of the proposed Greenbush Station Place, attended the meeting regarding the 50 Country Way (George Wetherbee House) component of the project. Doug Smith provided Commission members with an overview of the history of the proposed project, all aspects of which were affirmed by the attendees. Mr. Sandell then provided an overview of the evolution of the architectural design for the project, with a particular focus on the Wetherbee House. Extensive questions were posed by Commission members throughout the presentation. The demolition permit hearing for this property was closed. Commission members will vote on the permit at the next meeting.

Ms. Janey Davidson, owner of the property at 34 Bailey’s Causeway, attended the meeting regarding a demolition permit application. Commission members questioned Ms. Davidson about the property. The hearing was closed and a vote on the permit will be taken at the next meeting.

Mr. Paul Sheerin, the contingent purchaser of the property at 25 Bayberry Road, attended the meeting in regard to a demolition permit application. Mr. Sheerin provided a summary of the property and his plans. Questions were posed by Commission members and some additional information was sought by the Commission. The hearing was left open pending the applicant’s provision of the additional information. 5. CPC Applications Commission members agreed to defer a review of CPC applications until the next meeting.

6. Next Meeting The next meeting is scheduled for November 30, 2016.
