Job title: Lead Strength & Conditioning Coach Department/School: Department of Sport Development & Recreation Grade: 7 Location: Sports Training Village

Job purpose

To lead the Strength and Conditioning Team in their management and delivery of S and C provision to the Universities performance athletes, priority sports athletes and TASS athletes alongside members of the public of all ages and abilities.

The role will involve communicating with S and C practitioners and members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT), alongside coaches and athletes, to organise and manage the delivery of S and C services across the Universities Sports Programmes. It will also involve correspondence with other University Departments to build Continual Professional Development opportunities to maintain a high standard of practice and delivery.

Special conditions

Working in University Performance Sport will require flexible working hours in line with sport/athlete training schedules. This will include early morning and evening work, and less so, weekend work. Annual leave is to be taken in line with University semester breaks.

Main duties and responsibilities The candidate will: 1 Engage and apply knowledge of his/her skills to University Performance Sport and successfully demonstrate enhanced physical performance, injury prevention, and holistic well-being of athletes. The candidate will demonstrate this through evidenced based practice. 2 Lead the design of specific programmes in conjunction with the network of specialists, coaches and sport science and sports medicine personnel at the University of Bath alongside other key stakeholders.

Page 1 Main duties and responsibilities 3 Work closely with the Sports Science and Medicine Manager to proactively develop the S and C team and their service delivery to keep in line with national and international professional developments. 4 Line manage S and C coaches, fulfilling the administrative duties of the University’s HR department. 5 Be proficient in the administrative duties of the S and C strand delivery, providing key information in a timely manner to the Sport Science and Medicine Leadership Team and any other stakeholders. 6 Supervise placement students and interns as required; assisting with professional development and ensuring sessions are delivered to the required standards and recommendations of Team Bath. 7 In conjunction with England Institute of Sport staff, manage the High Performance Gym, specifically regarding bookings/usage, health and safety and up-keep of equipment. 8 Work with S and C Coaches and Sports Science & Medicine staff to improve performance through developing, implementing and evaluating Strength and Conditioning programmes based on sound scientific principle. To include: adaptation; periodisation; peaking; tapering; injury prevention; rehabilitation; load management; recovery and athlete screening/assessment. 9 Be solely responsible for health and safety when working with athletes in the gym and in physical training environments. 10 Ensure the delivery of the Strength and Conditioning service effectively meets its commitments to athletes, coaches, national governing bodies and other external professional bodies. 11 Within the rules of professional confidentiality, liaise with athletes, primary care managers, parents, coaches and other support staff as appropriate. 12 Be a proactive part of the multi-disciplinary support team, and willingly work in both a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary manner. 13 Work within, and lead the S and C team to work within, the rules of the UKSCA Professional Code of Conduct, standards and guidelines, and, where appropriate, University/NGB codes, standards and guidelines. 14 Manage the development of a comprehensive, indexed database of work conducted with S and C coaches, interns, athletes and coaches. 15 Research injury prevention models to apply to practice. 16 Attend, contribute to and provide regular reports at appropriate meetings associated with the programme to key stakeholders. 17 To plan and undertake an agreed programme of CPD, including attendance at internal and external meetings and courses to keep abreast of world’s best practice. 18 From time to time, be required to undertake other duties of a similar nature as reasonably required by your line manager The candidate may be required to: Quality assure the teaching on applied strength and conditioning qualifications such as Level 2/3 NVQ at Bath. Contribute to M-level teaching such as the applied strength and conditioning on the Sports Physiotherapy Masters Programme at Bath
