Project concept:

The following information was provided in the EOI submitted by the school and gives applicants an idea about the background and aims of their proposed AiR project. The final project concept will be developed in consultation with the successful artist applicant/s.

In 2016 Vasse Primary School is looking to further prioritise the development of critical and creative thinking amongst staff and students. This AiR project will endeavour to provide opportunities for the school to develop this capacity in a range of Australian Curriculum and Western Australian Curriculum areas.

Through a variety of technological experiences, the focus for this project will be specifically looking at the development of the idea that creativity is a cognitive experience that is restrained only by an individual’s ability to physically express it, and it occurs whenever and wherever an expressive challenge arises, not just in the art room.

The initial project concept is to use ceramics as a medium through which to develop the use of 3D modelling/scanning and printing (creating) technologies in staff and/or student workshops, team activities and individual experiences.

The aim for the school is to develop a process to electronically create items that students conceptualised, and then print in a ceramic medium. This process will give the school opportunities to and enhance the ability of students who may not ordinarily have the inclination or the physical ability to express their creative ideas.

In the long-term, through this AiR project, the school wishes to work with the successful artist/s to create a sustainable ‘creative space/lab’ and up skill staff in the new technology and process for future application in the school, and beyond into the wider community. In addition, the school is seeking the opportunity to implement a shift in school culture by integrating creativity into the everyday planning of its teachers and incorporate this into a whole school philosophy for the future.
