Central Plains Sams

The Central Plains Sams chapter lost a beloved member of our group in March, A few weeks ago a speaker in our church brought a sermon on friendship. As I was listening I could not help but think of the way we support each other when trouble comes our way.

A big thank you goes out to E.T; (Earl and Treva) production Company who led us to another first place in the skit contest at the Spring Samboree in Waco

Speaking of a Rally, the Area 10 is coming up in April so, be ready to party again… We hear rumors that our State Director Karen McAbee and husband will join us.

The 2011 Area 10 Mini Rally is history now. It was a fun event. We had excellent entertainment. The skits were funny while some were thought provoking and stirring but the one thing they had in common was that they were all very entertaining. Special thanks goes out to Jim and June for all the hard work and planning and to all of you for the door prizes, brown bag raffle, sweets, skits and games. Parking and countless other tasks. Thanks!

We are all feeling the pinch of the with fuel prices right now. Our wagon masters have worked so hard putting together trips only to see their plans squashed by $4.00 diesel. Even with this in mind this does not mean we can’t have fun. It will be a little closer to home for a while. Tom Johnson said something that I have not forgotten. “We can stay home and count our money or go somewhere and have fun.” Somebody is going to have fun; it might as well be us. We were captured by our Wagon Masters for a MYSTERY trip. Wonder where, we were told to be watching for gators, palm trees and an oasis all only 100 miles from Plainview. All we really know is, it will be fun.

Central Plains Sams met at the Neal Burnett’s for our June meeting. They furnished the fish the chapter members brought the rest. It was very well attended by our Chapter.

. Chaparral Sams

The April Campout will be held at the Area 10 Mini Rally in Plainview. Chaparral Sams will be responsible for taking care of the registration duties and selling tickets for the Catered Meal. We will plan our schedule when we arrive. It is suggested to get there early! Be sure to bring chapter vest and name tags. Jay and Verna Teague were surprised to be selected to participate in a (shot gun) wedding; after all it was their 60th anniversarie. Tom has requested trash bags from Goon Sams for this years clean up day. This will be conducted at our May meeting at Ole Town RV Park in Goodlett, Texas. See you in Plainview. Larry & Eva Reich, George & Vickie Porter and Rudie & Karon Tate attended the Spring Samboree. Larry and Eva Reich carried the Chapter flag in the Parade of Flags. Skipper represented the Chapter well again this year. Eva designed and made Slipper’s vest including this previous winning pins. The Chapter Logo and other patches. Oh yes Skipper is a dog.

Several members are having Doctor Issues; we wish them a speedy recovery and can get back on the road having fun.

The Chaparral Sams traveled to Duncan Oklahoma for their June campout there were several places to go, Chisholm Trail Heritage, Stephens County Museum, lots of shopping downtown. You must see the Stepping Stone Trail. A great time was had by all.

Palo Duro Sams

Meeting time once again. The Area 10 Rally was so rewarding. The weather was nice, lots of fun and fellowship. Sorry our club was unable to attend. Our skit was thought provoking and was received very well. Palo Duro sold tickets for the brown bag auction and it did well. This is one of the ways we pay our expenses. We had some great gifts. Some of our gang has health problems and some are just off having fun. Jake Huckaby was highlighted in this months newsletter, he was raised a country boy milked cows hoed and any thing else he was asked to do. His best friend was Roy Grisham, Roy and Jake has been long time buddies. Jake never met a stranger. He loves to tell stories, and keeps the family in stitches with tales of school, and family. He joined the Navy, he served for 22 years. When he retired, he studied to become a mail carrier for the Post Office. He also studied and became a TV repairman. This supplemented his income for the traveling he and Dot did. He has a way of making everyone he knows feel special. We have a lot more miles to travel We had a wonderful time as we caravanned to the Country Barn to hear and see our favorite Cowboy Poet’s perform. WE had 10 rigs on the ground and one visitor.

Whirlwind Sams The Whirlwinds met at Herb’s Place for burgers on the grill. Jordan Waller did a presentation of a family trip to Greece and Italy. Wonderful!! Herb also showed a video of their train trip to Durango-Silverton Railroad it Colorado. It made us all want to go riding! Welcome to Wendell and Thresa Dunlap they have joined our chapter. We are looking forward to traveling with them.

Yellow Rose Sams

Our monthly meeting was held at the Area10 Mini Rally. Visitors were Jim Odom ASD, and Karen McAbee.

The Yellow Rose Sams Website was given a big thank you from the State Director, Karen McCabe. It really helps to promote our chapter.

Carl Akerman thanked all the members for their help at the Mini Rally.

The dates for our May campout was finalized and for the June campout in Dumas, Carl ask that we let James know as soon as possible so he can finalize the trip. A letter was read from Jim Odom ASD, thanking the Yellow Rose chapter for their help at the Area 10 Rally. The chapter received a letter from Special Olympics for their donation, to be presented at the Spring Samboree. Members present were Ackerman’s, Beck’s, Bradens, Chandlers, Dalkes, Roberta Dillingham, Edwards, Fords, Mayfields, Medleys, Ellen Price and Thomases. It was good to have Anna Warren and Bill Allen as our guests.

Janese made the comment that she feels the Area 10 Rallies are too structured and there is not enough time for visiting. Of our group that spoke, it was their opinion that we not schedule as many activities and we don’t have entertainment every night. It was also pointed out how many jobs that has to be done and not as many chapters to get them done.

Happy Trails Jim and June Odom
