Current position and expertise Senior Consultant and Researcher at the Institute for Rural Development Research at J. W. Goethe University Frankfurt. Since 1993: Deputy Director. Since 2003: Managing Director. K. Knickel has 20 years experience of consultancy, appraisal, research and long-term project work, and planning and co-ordination of a wide range of research and advisory projects, including agri-environmental and rural development policy analysis, monitoring and evaluation. Particular interests are in interdisciplinary research concerned with rural, agricultural and environmental polices and their international dimensions (CAP / CEP, European integration and enlargement, Agenda 2000, etc.). K. Knickel has been leading studies on behalf of international agencies, EU, national and regional governmental bodies, and environmental agencies as well as agricultural and rural development bodies. He has been a post-doctoral EU Research Fellow at the Agricultural University of Athens, and lectured in Rural and Environmental Policy, Land Use Theory and Project Planning at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Environmental Protection, J. Liebig University of Giessen and the University of Munich.
