What is Study Assist? The Study Assist program was created with the objective to provide an environment of support for students that struggle to meet the expectations of CHS classes as well as state standards. Students will thus be able to: 1. Pass classes 2. Remain in school and graduate from CHS 3. Become eligible for athletics and activities 4. Improve attitude & self esteem 5. Improve attendance
Who is eligible to be in Study Assist? Students are required to meet at least one of the listed criteria below: o Grade point average o Retention o Failing grades o Fallen behind by one or more years, the graduating class representing the peer group with whom they entered kindergarten o History of disruptive behavior in school o Teacher or parent recommendation o What takes place in Study Assist? In Study Assist students will work on a variety of topics that relate to the objective of the class, ranging from: Time Management Test Preparation Value of Education Organization
Who teaches Study Assist? Certified teacher oversees the program o Creates the assignments o Grades o Contact guardians & parents/ teachers One full time aide Certified staff throughout the day
How are students graded? Weekly assignments Daily Rubric Students are eligible to receive ½ credit each semester
What are the evaluation procedures of the program? Student grade point average will be reviewed Student percent of classes passed will be reviewed Student grades will be compared to prior semesters before enrolling in the Study Assist program Attendance of those students participating in the program will be compared against the previous completed grading period prior to their enrollment

Classes Passed Before Study Assist 64% 2007- 2008 First Semester 87% 2007- 2008 Second Semester 88% 2008- 2009 First Semester 92% 9 Students made the Honor Roll 2008- 2009 Second Semester 91%
Results Why has the program worked? Why do the rich get richer? Success builds Confidence Students who lack confidence: will not take risks, feel hopeless, stop learning
My challenge is to take the students to the edge and be able to step off and learn.

He pushed them and they flew. –Guillaume Apollinaire Study Assist Class Transfer 1st Semester 2008-09 Purpose: To utilize existing class periods, where students have no opportunity to pass the class, for working on classes that the student has the ability to pass and retain credit. A total of 8 students were put in Study Assist extra class periods where they had no opportunity of passing with a result of 16 classes being passed out of a possible 22. This transfers into a total of 8 credits being earned.
